The Miraculous Octopus

This week join Roger Billings and the Science Live crew in an exploration of one of nature’s most remarkable creatures: the octopus!

We’ll learn about the octopus’s remarkable camouflage abilities and the science that allows them to change color and texture in as little as 200 milliseconds. Did you know they have no backbone and not one, but three hearts! Discover more fascinating facts and fun stories about these remarkably intelligent creatures.

This episode also includes updates on Acellus World – a new cyber school program, and don’t miss the hilarious segment where R51 attempts — with mixed results — to train an octopus named Octagon.

14:30 That is so cool! I once watched a youtube video. In the video, this guy found out that octopus are more likely to survive and live longer if they are in their natural habitat (oceans). But because he bought the octopus from a pet store, he knew it was used to humans and wouldn’t be able to figure out its way in the ocean without some help. So he built a maze with different entrances, each entrance different sizes with the biggest entrance leading to the longest maze and the smallest entrance being the shortest maze. After testing different foods to see which the octopus liked best, he put the octopus in the maze to see if she could finish the maze. If the octopus solved the maze, which requires you to navigate a maze, walls moving up and down, walls and flooring some times shifting direction, and finally turning a giant wheel, the octopus got its favorite food as a prize. Once the guy determined it was ready and able to survive on its own, he released it back into the ocean.

Fun fact: Did you know that octopi DNA is so different from other species that they could be considered Earth aliens? It’s true, octopi DNA doesn’t stem to any other animal.

I just know the octopus can camouflage. That is cool! By the way I watched ep. 308 octopus but my parent portal said I watched ep.303. I tried to watch it many times on April 29 but it said ep.303 on my parent portal so I watched it again on April 30. It still said ep.303 but I watched ep.308 Octopus.
