The Miraculous Octopus
This week join Roger Billings and the Science Live crew in an exploration of one of nature’s most remarkable creatures: the octopus!
We’ll learn about the octopus’s remarkable camouflage abilities and the science that allows them to change color and texture in as little as 200 milliseconds. Did you know they have no backbone and not one, but three hearts! Discover more fascinating facts and fun stories about these remarkably intelligent creatures.
This episode also includes updates on Acellus World – a new cyber school program, and don’t miss the hilarious segment where R51 attempts — with mixed results — to train an octopus named Octagon.

I think it is crazy that humans have only explored 5% of the ocean. Imagine how many other varieties of octopi exist that we don’t even know about!
This video was cool. I didn’t knowoctopus were colorblind.

The ocean and it’s creatures are so beautiful. It’s still crazy to me that we only know a small percentage of what the ocean holds.

Octopie are so adorable! On top of that, they’re so smart- I mean, most marine- or even land animals can’t even comprehend using their surrounding objects as tools! I also find it so amazing that they can camouflage!
R-51 was so hilarious also I think the octopus was just embarrased 😉
I think octagon just didn’t like r-51😭
I love octopuses too! I knew they could change colors but I didn’t know they could change their skin too. That’s cool!
Awesome science live!
Cyberschool is nice, I wonder how they come up with these ideas so fast!
What do they experiment or design by studying the colors and traits of the octopus? I wish I had 8 arms hahaha!
The octopus was so cool. I loved how it acts and imitates 15 other species that we know about. And it wasnt even discovered until 1998
Octopus are so cool!
That was super fun!
this was cool!!!
How do octopuses produce ink?
I love learning about animals. Can the next one be about jellyfish? Did you know that jellyfish do not have a brain, nor heart or blood, for they are basically a floating stomach? Sorry I’m a nerd who loves telling facts. Especially animal facts. I love studying about mythical creatures and Ancient Egypt. It’s fascinating learning about things that people of the past used to believe in.
Cool I never new that
I learned that octopuses have blue blood.

My favorite part was the octopus, thank you for such an amazing video, can’t wait for the next one
I freaking love this!
This entire science live was very interesting. It made me want to look up more about the differences between how and why the octopus changes color versus the chameleon. I read that the chameleon changes color slower than the octopus and sometimes it’s to show the kind of mood it’s in or to regulate its temperature, not just for mating. It’s really cool how smart the octopus is too.
great video
the octopus was really cool in my opinion!
I loved it.
I loved learning the different octopus facts!
I think the whole Science Live on octopus was absolutely fascinating. Thank you.
What types of cameras and lenses are used to photograph the colors and the instincts of the octopus? How long did it take?
The ocean is so interesting. Zoey

It was so cool to see the Octopus hide in the coconut. Also I saw a person trained an octopus to play on the piano.
