The Miraculous Octopus

This week join Roger Billings and the Science Live crew in an exploration of one of nature’s most remarkable creatures: the octopus!

We’ll learn about the octopus’s remarkable camouflage abilities and the science that allows them to change color and texture in as little as 200 milliseconds. Did you know they have no backbone and not one, but three hearts! Discover more fascinating facts and fun stories about these remarkably intelligent creatures.

This episode also includes updates on Acellus World – a new cyber school program, and don’t miss the hilarious segment where R51 attempts — with mixed results — to train an octopus named Octagon.

I was so surprised seeing the octopus camouflage. I never knew they could change colors and even change the texture of their skin to blend in. I also never knew that they could remember faces, that’s actually cool because that means if someone had a pet octopus, the octopus could remember who their owner is!

Did you know that if you stab an octopus in between the eyes, the octopus will turn white and die? Its an easy way to make a octopus let go of you if your swimming and an octopus grabs onto you, but still there are other non-harmful ways to get rid of a clingy octopus.

This week’s lesson was very interesting. I enjoyed learning about how octopus’s change color and all other special abilities they have.

During the lecture, Dr. Roger Billings stated; if a student watches part of Science live, then logs off, they will not be counted for attendance
What happens if a student lives in a rural area and loses internet service mid-way through the video, (because they have poor service) will Acellus refuse to count that student for attendence; even if they watch the other half later.
