The Miraculous Octopus
This week join Roger Billings and the Science Live crew in an exploration of one of nature’s most remarkable creatures: the octopus!
We’ll learn about the octopus’s remarkable camouflage abilities and the science that allows them to change color and texture in as little as 200 milliseconds. Did you know they have no backbone and not one, but three hearts! Discover more fascinating facts and fun stories about these remarkably intelligent creatures.
This episode also includes updates on Acellus World – a new cyber school program, and don’t miss the hilarious segment where R51 attempts — with mixed results — to train an octopus named Octagon.

do mimic octopi mimic humans?
I feel like pet octopi would, but wild ones don’t
I wonder how octopus is able to avoid taking brain damage?
Superb! Hoping next week will be just as good. 🙂

Dear Mr. Billings,
Please don’t sell your car or your airplane 😢
You deserve to have them! Acellus Academy has helped me so much, more than I can write here. I love Science Live! And I love you and Ms. Monet so much! Maybe those who don’t appreciate you need to be let go. Please keep doing what you’re doing!
It’s pretty cool how octupuses learn from their mistakes.
It grosses me out every time I watch a video of an octopus squeezing itself into a tiny whole, but I laugh at the fart sounds it makes. I’m so immature :sob:
thank you sooooo much i love these

My family watches Science Live as a group, and only one of us is signed into Science Live when we watch it; is this going to be a problem now and in the future.
Very very interesting, love these always!
great video
This is why octopuses are one of my favorite animals, they are so smart.
I was so surprised seeing the octopus camouflage. I never knew they could change colors and even change the texture of their skin to blend in. I also never knew that they could remember faces, that’s actually cool because that means if someone had a pet octopus, the octopus could remember who their owner is!
I enjoyed learning more about the octopus!
Training an octocpus is actually so awesome!!!
great video
I wonder if scientists can make humans camouflage too like octopus
Wow this was a great video.
So funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Hi from Buffalo ❤️ love live science
Great video this week!
So cool on how science works!
Good week
I love science live!
Octopus are so cute!!
Did you know that if you stab an octopus in between the eyes, the octopus will turn white and die? Its an easy way to make a octopus let go of you if your swimming and an octopus grabs onto you, but still there are other non-harmful ways to get rid of a clingy octopus.
Don’t a lot of squid do that too?
Science live is the best part of acellus. I love it!
Hi from Nevada!
Loved the video.
its cool becuase me and my freainds were talking about octopie the other day

I love science live!!
r-51 was so funny
how do you train a octopus
I think it is really cool that octopus can escape through learning by seeing others do things. Being able to learn just from seeing is really cool, and a skill I wish I was able to consistently perform.
I really loved learning about octopus and this week was funny to watch.
Science live is so fun! Happy to see next week.

Very interesting !!!!!
I loved learning about the octopus and how they can learn from their mistakes and remember faces.
I love all the facts about the octopus. I wonder if the mythiclal Kraken was actually real.
Wow! I never knew octopuses were color blind, and it’s their skin that sees color. I think the coolest inventions come from mimicking nature.
When can we expect to widely implement biodegradable or eco-friendly materials in battery technology to reduce environmental damage all around the world?
science is amazing. so much to learn so much to see
Such an interesting Science Live!
This week’s lesson was very interesting. I enjoyed learning about how octopus’s change color and all other special abilities they have.
During the lecture, Dr. Roger Billings stated; if a student watches part of Science live, then logs off, they will not be counted for attendance
What happens if a student lives in a rural area and loses internet service mid-way through the video, (because they have poor service) will Acellus refuse to count that student for attendence; even if they watch the other half later.
yay cant to watch science live!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉
Funny to see that octopuses have preferences for different humans. I can’t wait to learn more in the next one!
Octopuses are such amazing creatures! Can’t wait for the next science live.
