The Miraculous Octopus
This week join Roger Billings and the Science Live crew in an exploration of one of nature’s most remarkable creatures: the octopus!
We’ll learn about the octopus’s remarkable camouflage abilities and the science that allows them to change color and texture in as little as 200 milliseconds. Did you know they have no backbone and not one, but three hearts! Discover more fascinating facts and fun stories about these remarkably intelligent creatures.
This episode also includes updates on Acellus World – a new cyber school program, and don’t miss the hilarious segment where R51 attempts — with mixed results — to train an octopus named Octagon.

This was so interesting i loved todays live!
Love this live!
I always learn something new. Thank you for a great episode!
I LOVE octopus that are so cool!
Amazing work love to see it
hello from Nebraska
I did not know that the bumbs was like goose bumbs on them. That is cool.
I loved todays science live. It’s very cool that the octopus are most likely color blind and how fast they can change colors. In Germany they had a octopus that could predict who won the world cup and they got it right! Octopus also have no backbone. They can recognize a human face. They have three hearts, blue blood, and sensors in their body! R. 51 WAS SO FUNNY TONIGHT! I loved how the octopus kept tricking R.51!
Also, in my moms parent portal it showed i watched another episode but I watched this one. We’re not sure why its saying that!
Have a great night Acellus! 🙂
Wow, it is so close!
Loved this episode doc!
Thank you for another great video!
Hi from nc!!
Thank u for the live!
Great episode! I adore animals, so i loved the topic of the day
Octopus and other sea life are so cool!
Octopuses are truly like something out of a science fiction movie because of their unique biology.
Every week I say, to my mom is there science life today I love life so much
I like how aotopus can look like a rock, like how a octopus can mimic a fish.
I learned a lot about this video thank you so much. See you next week.
This Science Live was great! See you next week.
Do you think octopuses are smarter than us, for they have nine brains?
i really enjoyed todays science live . I love learning new things about animals
I love science videos. I will watch this next time!
Hello from Nevada!
Dear Dr. Billings and the rest of the Acellus crew,
This is my very last time watching Science Live, as I will be finishing my final course on the fifth of May. I think that going to Acellus World sounds like an amazing experience, but I unfortunately cannot come because it is more than a ten-hour drive from where we live. This means that I will not be able to come to my Acellus graduation ceremony, even though I would enjoy to very much. I would like to thank you all for putting together some amazing courses that make complicated concepts understandable, and for creating interesting, entertaining, and hilarious Science Live episodes every week. If it weren’t for Acellus, I might not have been able to grasp some of the more advanced math concepts very easily. On top of that, Acellus gave me the flexibility to be able to complete my schoolwork and learn how to remodel, construct, and inspect homes from my father at the same time. What you all have accomplished here is amazing. Thank you.
-Jacob
Amazing video, Acellus is truly inspiring! I admire how you guys can make a video so informative yet also funny!!
Hi from TX!
Commenti learn something new about octopus
Octopi are for sure one of the more interesting animals! A favorite.
That is so awesome about the octopus
good video
Best one yet
I find it funny how horses with a single proper horn don’t truly exist, yet a near shape-shifting, boneless lifeform capable of changing colors and releasing clouds of ink while being extremely intelligent does.
such an amazing live thank you !
Cool video
I love watching Science Live.
the octopus It’s it’s one of the most remarkable species😊.
I’m late to the party. Loved this live even though I’m late.
Love this weeks episode!! Octopi are so awesome. I’m excited for next week!
Thanks for the video.
I read a fiction book from the perspective of an octopi one time. It was a great book. I love that octopus can shrink to get through tiny holes and often escape from aquariums!
Fun fact: octopus is not Latin, so the correct plural is either octopodes or octopuses, not octopi.
Hello from IL
I didn’t know that octopuses have three hearts
This episode was so interesting! I love Science Live!
I had no idea that an octopus are colored blind. They use their skin to detect colors. That is pretty cool.
i have always been intrigued by octopuses
It was wonderful, thank you!
So cool!
I wish Iwas going to accelus world to meet David and Caleb
Thanks for the lesson.
Still laughing about the lizard joke!😅😂
This show inspires me to be better, and I can accomplish what I dream about doing in life.

I’m pretty scared of the ocean and this honestly gave me another reason to be. Pretty cool tho.
Octopi are so incredible and smart!
Octopuses have always astounded me. They have so many complexities to them that make them seem almost human in some aspects but yet look nothing alike us!
thats was so fun
Hi from Indiana
This is so facinating.

I didn’t realize the octopus was such a cool animal! Probably smarter than most people.
Love the showcase of the octopus. They are amazing creatures.
This was amazing!
i loved learning about octopie, and i think its so cool how they work and what their traits are, i found it really cool when they said they had 1 brains for each arm so they can give each of their arms a faster more responsive, and i love how smart they are compared to every other animal its so cool seeing an animal that’s so smart that isn’t a human.
OH MY GOSH! BEST EPISODE YET OF 2026!!! AMAZING! Please, please, please, keep us posted on the cyber school…I would love to do some of the sports (soccer!)/STEM(robotics/coding!)/CTE programs that high schools offer and still do online schooling – it would be absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, that is SOOOOOO cool about the octopus and the chromatophores! I am working my way to a veterinary medicine DVM degree (most likely at Purdue University – my family is in the middle of moving to Indiana!) and that was just so cool to learn about a unique animal such as that. I hope to walk the stage for my graduation at Acellus as I will be moving much closer. Currently, I am self educating on Python coding with the help of a friend, and I plan to take a coding class if I can fit it in my class load for next year. I am coding my own pedigree/recordkeeping app for my mini rex rabbitry! It has been so fun and a unique learning (though not easy, it is fun!) curve. Thank you for another ASTOUNDINGLY GOOD episode of Science Live!

Love the episode this week as usual, and I must say I am very intrigued by the octopus’ ability, however the AI usage is getting very unsettling. I din’t understand bringing up Walt Disney himself and then immediately turning around and using AI. Still a lovely episode this week!
