The Miraculous Octopus

This week join Roger Billings and the Science Live crew in an exploration of one of nature’s most remarkable creatures: the octopus!

We’ll learn about the octopus’s remarkable camouflage abilities and the science that allows them to change color and texture in as little as 200 milliseconds. Did you know they have no backbone and not one, but three hearts! Discover more fascinating facts and fun stories about these remarkably intelligent creatures.

This episode also includes updates on Acellus World – a new cyber school program, and don’t miss the hilarious segment where R51 attempts — with mixed results — to train an octopus named Octagon.

I loved todays science live. It’s very cool that the octopus are most likely color blind and how fast they can change colors. In Germany they had a octopus that could predict who won the world cup and they got it right! Octopus also have no backbone. They can recognize a human face. They have three hearts, blue blood, and sensors in their body! R. 51 WAS SO FUNNY TONIGHT! I loved how the octopus kept tricking R.51!

Also, in my moms parent portal it showed i watched another episode but I watched this one. We’re not sure why its saying that!

Have a great night Acellus! 🙂

Dear Dr. Billings and the rest of the Acellus crew,

This is my very last time watching Science Live, as I will be finishing my final course on the fifth of May. I think that going to Acellus World sounds like an amazing experience, but I unfortunately cannot come because it is more than a ten-hour drive from where we live. This means that I will not be able to come to my Acellus graduation ceremony, even though I would enjoy to very much. I would like to thank you all for putting together some amazing courses that make complicated concepts understandable, and for creating interesting, entertaining, and hilarious Science Live episodes every week. If it weren’t for Acellus, I might not have been able to grasp some of the more advanced math concepts very easily. On top of that, Acellus gave me the flexibility to be able to complete my schoolwork and learn how to remodel, construct, and inspect homes from my father at the same time. What you all have accomplished here is amazing. Thank you.

OH MY GOSH! BEST EPISODE YET OF 2026!!! AMAZING! Please, please, please, keep us posted on the cyber school…I would love to do some of the sports (soccer!)/STEM(robotics/coding!)/CTE programs that high schools offer and still do online schooling – it would be absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, that is SOOOOOO cool about the octopus and the chromatophores! I am working my way to a veterinary medicine DVM degree (most likely at Purdue University – my family is in the middle of moving to Indiana!) and that was just so cool to learn about a unique animal such as that. I hope to walk the stage for my graduation at Acellus as I will be moving much closer. Currently, I am self educating on Python coding with the help of a friend, and I plan to take a coding class if I can fit it in my class load for next year. I am coding my own pedigree/recordkeeping app for my mini rex rabbitry! It has been so fun and a unique learning (though not easy, it is fun!) curve. Thank you for another ASTOUNDINGLY GOOD episode of Science Live!
