The Miraculous Octopus

This week join Roger Billings and the Science Live crew in an exploration of one of nature’s most remarkable creatures: the octopus!

We’ll learn about the octopus’s remarkable camouflage abilities and the science that allows them to change color and texture in as little as 200 milliseconds. Did you know they have no backbone and not one, but three hearts! Discover more fascinating facts and fun stories about these remarkably intelligent creatures.

This episode also includes updates on Acellus World – a new cyber school program, and don’t miss the hilarious segment where R51 attempts — with mixed results — to train an octopus named Octagon.

I find octopuses incredibly fascinating. Their ability to change color and blend seamlessly into their surroundings is truly remarkable, but what truly sets them apart is the fact that they possess three hearts. Two branchial hearts pump blue, copper-rich blood to the gills, where oxygen is absorbed. The remaining system heart circulates the oxygenated blood throughout the rest of the body. Thank you for another excellent science live! I look forward to next week.
