How My Training As An Inventioneer Altered Ethernet
Everyone said it was impossible. Engineers laughed and called it ‘The Billings Folly’ — as a joke. Then the entire internet adopted it, and now the whole world uses it.
Dr. Roger Billings tells the inside story of how full duplex gigabit Ethernet was invented, rejected at IEEE standards meetings, and eventually became the global standard behind modern internet, streaming video, and AI.
Discover the inventions that made it possible — the concentrator, the equalizer circuit, and the balanced hybrid circuit — and hear what happened when Ron Crane, the father of Ethernet himself, stepped in to defend it.

Great video so much information
I love it so cute nice and pretty
Can’t wait for the next science live! They are super cool!! : D
Science is awesome
Thank you science live for this video I learned so much!
Hello from kansas!
I really enjoyed todays science live, learning about collisions was very interesting!!!
Science is truly amazing, because it finds a way to solve so many problems and make life better. It does take a long time though, and it’s hard to wait, especially when what is being researched is something a great interest or need, like a cure for Alzheimers. However, things take a lot of time to test… Sweden inventing an inner ear injection that uses a harmless virus to carry a functional copy of the OTOF gene directly into the cochlea, forcing the body to produce the missing protein. Who knew hair cells in the ear were THAT important? Without them, the ear can “hear” the sound, but the brain never receives the message. WOW. Science is cool.
It’s so cool how you are able to make deaf people hear
I think that r51 is very funny
me to it was so funny
R51 cracks me up!

Hi this is Ally from Louisiana, and I just wanted to say I love the Acellus academy I think it is such a great idea I hated being homeschooled until i started doing Acellus. I do soccer and Acellus helps me be able to play soccer while still doing all of my school and the best part is I am getting all a’s in my classes. I just wanted to say thank u Dr. Roger Billing for making Acellus and allowing me to learn through Acellus. Thanks! 😊

Hi from Iowa
I never knew this is how the internet worked and data was sent. I always wondered how data entered a hub if more than one set of data was sent at the same time.
If we never had people like Rodger Billings, we would not even have computers, let alone ethernet.
Solving collision problems.
