Radio Waves

November 12, 2025  •  EPISODE 286

How do invisible waves travel across the world and beyond? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings dives into the fascinating science of radio waves—how they’re created, how they move through space, and how they make long-distance communication possible. From the basics of frequency and transmission to early breakthroughs like Morse code and modern applications such as HAM radio and space communication, join us as we explore the hidden currents that keep us connected.

It’s impressive how well made morse code is, it may seem like people just memorise the whole morse alphabet to translate it, but it’s actually done via process of elimination, removing possible options as the message goes on. I fond that INCREDIBLY fascinating.

Me and my cousin made a radio out of a spool of copper wire and a 2×4 and a antenna made from a old fishing pole wrapped in copper wire with a coat hanger on top.

Is it bioluminescence that caused the coral to glow? I just learned there’s water deep beneath the Earth’s surface in crystalized form and I thought that was so cool! Science is awesome!

What is the recommended amount of time to study per class per day in order to help your brain retain as much of the information as possible and should you spread out some classes for example study math on monday, wendnesday and, friday so you have a day in between where you didn’t study math so your brain has time to process that while also splitting all your classes like that switching them to keep studying consistent between all classes. lets say you have 6 classes and you study three of those classes like I stated before and the other three you study on tuesday and thursday switching which ones your studying on which days every week. Would this be better than spending every day studying every class because you warn against cramming and if you study everyday for every class you’re still studying a lot per day even if you only have six classes.
