How We Make Rockets That Reach the Moon
Join Dr. Roger Billings and the Science Live team as we explore how we make rockets that reach the Moon, featuring NASA’s Artemis II mission — the first crewed return to the Moon in over 50 years!
In this lesson, discover what makes the massive SLS rocket so powerful: its giant solid rocket boosters, liquid hydrogen fuel, and the incredible engineering that lifts millions of pounds into space. You’ll also explore the advanced Orion spacecraft, the groundbreaking laser communication system that beamed HD video from 240,000 miles away, and the record-breaking 252,000-mile journey that took humans farther from Earth than ever before.
Whether you’re a budding space enthusiast, curious about the Artemis program, learning about rocket science, or dreaming of becoming an astronaut, this lesson has something for you. Perfect for students who want to understand the real engineering and technology behind sending rockets — and people — all the way to the Moon and beyond!

Rockets are so cool!
It is so exciting to know human beijings make rockets that reach the Moon.
Great episode! Also, I believe that the propellant used in Artemis’ side boosters are called ammonium perchlorate composite propellants, and are indeed a solid-state fuel.
It was really cool to know more details about the rocket.
Thanks so glad for another fun one

from which animal did they take fossil bones from to create the prototype?
how fast can we get thar.
Dr. Roger Billings, if we manage to produce methane on mars to use as a fuel for the rocket’s return back home, could we run out of the material on mars over the years if we keep using methane as fuel for these massive rockets?
I enjoyed this Science Live a lot!

If you eat food in space with no gravity, how does the food actually go down to your stomach? Wouldn’t it have a difficult time making its way down the digestive tract without gravity? Do you have to eat upside down so it goes in the right direction?
I think the new English class offered for Seniors looks really good. Hearing about the Artemis space mission was interesting.
