How to Invent

November 19, 2025  •  EPISODE 287

How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

I loved this episode! My favorite part was the Technology Spotlight. There was a robot that was trained to fall in a specfic way to not break itself. It was trained using a computer psychics model that tought the AI how to fall properly. Once training was complete, it was added to the physical robot.

What does it take to be considered a good invention? To make it to the “big leagues” what would one have to do? Let’s say one does have a college degree, can they make their life income off inventing random things to display to the world?
