How to Invent
November 19, 2025Β β’Β EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventingβshowing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

I always thought it was so awesome how radio waves could send messages without any visible means to do so. It almost seems like magic, but it’s science! Science is pretty much magic…you can do anything if you figure out how the world can make it happen.
This was a really great science live, my favorite part was during the tech part at the beginning where the robots would fall stylishly!! It was so funny!
Thank you Acellus live.
The inventing process explained by Roger Billings is super interesting
I LOVE SCIENCE
It was fascinating seeing the robots that Disney was working on. They were learning how to fall gracefully to not damage themselves. They are being programmed to preserve the parts that are more sensitive like our human heads. I thought it was so funny how they positioned the robots to fall.
I love how Dr. Billings said that when you want to invent something, you have to find a need. Once you know the need, write it down. I always write things down. I journal my thoughts and feelings. When you write things down, it makes it real. It validates it, and it helps you remember.
I loved todayβs episode and I hope you consider a Morse code classππ
Morse code would be a cool thing to learn!
i loved when they talked about morse code
Love the inventing lessons!.. coming live from a true scientist and inventor!.. itβs a game-changer.. and makes wisdom so far-reaching and accessible. Very inspirational and directly impactful . We are so honored to have the opportunity to learn firsthand from a certified genius π Thank you and looking forward to learning as much as possible ! And carrying on the legacy you have started, everyone in their own unique creative/inventive way, worldwide!
How could someone be brilliant enough to figure out by pushing electrons through wires we could start the telephone system we know today?
I have learned from Acellus, that anything you want to do in life is to gain knowledge, first then create a strategy to get it done.
I was so intrigued the whole time! I love watching science live!!
What first inspired Roger Billings to start working with Hydrogen?
how long did it take to figure out how to get the robots to end in the right position
It’s always fun learning new things on Science Live.
Can vectored instruction help me with Social Studies
Who has been credited with the most patented inventions?
Science Live is awesome. I want to invent things that make life easier for everyone. It seems you only think of something when you are in the middle of doing something in general. Inventions come to mind when wanting to simplify a process.
Thank you for the opportunity to receive a scholarship, we watch weekly. I enjoy the episodes.
