How to Invent

November 19, 2025  •  EPISODE 287

How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

At the end you where talking about the Acellus Science Live and how it works. I personally think if there was a page where a kid can see all the lives at once and they are marked when you watch them so it’s easy to find the ones you have not watched and can go back and watch them. Because I watch the Science Live every week but there have been times that I missed them in the past and I don’t remember if I saw the live or not. And if there is already an option to viewing all the lives you missed to go back and watch them, how do I do so? (please answer)

I really liked this episode! It made me wonder. When you’re coming up with a new invention, how do you tell the difference between a “good idea” and just a random thought that won’t go anywhere? Is there something specific inventors look for at the start?

Also, sorry for watching a few days late. I just got a new kitten and he’s basically taken over my entire life this week, so I’m finally catching up now. 😅
