How to Invent
November 19, 2025 • EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

Love how many people are from different states in the comment!!
Hi from Nevada! Loved getting to learn about morse code today!
Wow! So cool I wonder how I would spell my name in Morse code.! Awesome episode.
It’s interesting how the @ symbol is hundreds of years old and has been around forever, and how it wasn’t initially used for emails.
Hello teachers, where did Bill Lear fly to on his first long-distance jet flight? Thank you, teachers!
r51 is on a roll
Give me lots of ideas on how to get started inventing. I want to make a patent.
I like the science live lessons about inventing
I love Science LIVE!!! I can’t wait to earn enough coins to buy a robot. My Dad and I sometimes use Morse Code on our walkie talkies. It’s very interesting.
I really liked this episode of science live and learning about the email and morse code. Teaching robots how to fall without breaking was also really cool.
This science live was great! Hi from Tennessee!
I really enjoyed Science Live tonight. The robots learning to fall was cool. I am enjoying learning about how to become an inventor with Dr. Billings.
This video today was really amazing! Today, I studied more about Morse code!
I would love to have morse code as activity!!!
I didn’t know that Disney has been teaching robots how to “fall in style” to prevent them from breaking or harming any of the important things that keep them working correctly. I also found it very interesting that the AI Models ran different tests and ended up finding the best pose for the robots parts, in the event that they were to fall, that reduced the amount of damages!
I love learning about morse code. The more I learn, the more amazed I get!!!
Thank you for teaching us new things every week.
This week of Science Live was amazing. Learning about Morse code was a lot of fun.
That is so interesting how stuff like that was engineered!
Science live is the best!
this weeks live was very fun and useful! I’m looking forward to next weeks!!!!
Hi from Connecticut. I really like the science lives.
Really interesting episode – Morse Code was an amazing invention!
Do you have any favorite inventions from someone you’ve mentored?
This science live was sooo fun to learn about e-mails and how to send in Morse code! Much love from Tennessee!
I don’t know what would be the benefit of learning morse code these days although it is cool. I can’t imagine what the next development of communication could be when it’s already pretty great.
Could you add a maze game in the Acellus activities? Mazes are really fun and challenging.
I wonder who the most famous person roger knows
I’ve always thought creating and inventing was really cool.
I really enjoyed this weeks science live
This video inspired me. I want to invent something helpful and unique.
R51 was so silly. I liked hearing about how to send messages.
I enjoyed the segment about Ray Tomlinson. Did you all know that April 23rd is named Email Day to honor Ray Tomlinson. Also I want to thank Dr. Roger Billings for showing us morse code in this episode.
I like science live because its informational and entertaining.
I’ve always thought that creating inventtions was really cool
Science live is really cool and interesting
It is hard to imagine how many emails go out everyday! My mom and I watch this every Wednesday night together and thank you for the scholarship. I am also enjoying learning about morse code.
This science live was really cool!

I think R-51 is special too:)
I love this Science Live episode!
One of my favorites so far. Shoutout R51
I learned from the science live was to understand how to use morse code!. Thank you Acellus im learning allot from these episodes you’ve inspired allot of people including me?.
Yes! Tobias is exactly right! It is more exciting to get letters than an email. So weird 🤣
I think it would be great to learn Morse code, I learned a lot about it in this live. Looking forward to next week!
Have a happy thanksgiving Roger Billings.
R-51 is my favorite!!!
I like inventing things. Dr. Rogers Billings said its a process and it takes time but is fun.
This lecture was great coming from New Mexico! I’m new to Acellus and this was great!
Its interesting to learn how technology was invented cause we just take it for granted now and dont really think about what it took to have what we have today.
Loved and enjoyed today’s live!
It’s cool that the new layout allows us to see others students comments and responses !! :)))
This is my first Science Live and I really loved it! Loved the humor and how they talked about Morse Code. Very interesting and amazing!
How would you spell “Acellus” in morse code?
Science live rules!
I really liked the little montage the boy in the beginning gave about the vectored learning videos. It really changed my perspective on them, instead of getting bothered, im just grateful now. I also really liked the part about the little robot, super cute how it kind of caught himself when he fell.
These episodes get more interesting every week
How do you know if your invention idea is actually good or worth trying?
I loved today’s live science!
Science is my favorite field of study. What is your favorite class?
Along with the science and invention of morse code, the history of its use is interesting as well. It was used for communications between ships, and may I grimly but most famously note, the Titanic! The last messages of the Titanic, which were sent using morse code, have been documented—and there are many interesting articles and videos you can find about it.
This week of Science Live was amazing. Learning about Morse code was a lot of fun.
Im ready to learn

The robot testing was impressive.
It was interesting to learn how emails were started.
Great show! Making the robot fall in a cool pose, was a great way of keeping it from getting damaged.
R 51 is hilarious!
Mr. Billings do you think that a hydro engine vehicle is faster than a gas or diesel powered engine?
I liked when he talked about the robots and learning about the morse code that was fun to learn about, it was something i didn’t know anything about. i love learning new things each week and r51 is always fun to watch each week. I really enjoy watching the science lives. cant wait till next week!!
I’ve always been interested in Morse code, it was cool hearing about it on the science live
Is so interesting that the @ sign has been used for 100’s of years! Its truly unimaginable how people can use different signs for unique ways and certain items.
This was awesome! I would love to invent something one day.
Simple things can sometimes make a huge impact on the world.
Deion: Dr Billings I’m slowly getting into Morse code, it would be nice if you could put the buzzer in the Acellus store. Thanks
when will the myth and conspricy theroy course be out?
That’s so cool! I liked how we learned how email was made! Looking forward to seeing you guys next week! Have a blessed one!

I really enjoyed tonights live. I liked when Tobias was telling about Ray Tomlinson and I enjoyed learning about the morse code, i liked when Roger Billings was explaining about it and he said if you send a short buzz it means E and a long buzzzzzz means T “get it ET” it means a alien deal right from your planet. i thought that was funny and cool. Looking forward to next week and to learn new things.
I love the lives. They are so fun to watch.
Science live is awesome!
this science live is great and r51 is good
Morse code is a communication method using a series of short signals(dots) and long signals (dashes) to represent letters, numbers and punctuation. Developed by Samuel Morse in the 1830s for the electric telegraph, It was the first system for rapid long-distance communication though the version created in 1851 called International Morse Code, is the most commonly used today. It can be transmitted through various means such as electrical pulses, audio tones or flashing lights.
