How to Invent
November 19, 2025 • EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

My sister had a good idea. It was to have r-51 in one of pajets classes.
I love learning about morse code
R-51 should be a comedian whenever he has free time.
It makes me and my parents very upset that people are not using the scholarship correctly. When you make a promise your should keep it! Plus, Science Live is so cool. I learn neat things all the time. I’ve learned how to make a radio using a paper clip and a razor. I also learned about soldering and thought that was awesome, so my parents bought me a soldering set and I am learning how to do it myself. I think if the kids would just watch Science Live they would find things that they like too, especially r51. He is so funny!
My dad knows Morse code and has taught me a few things
I feel really bad for Roger reading all that bragging. I think Roger is really generous for providing us with an opportunity of a scholership. Thank you!
It’s inspiring to learn, Science is so fun.
This is very inspiring!
Thanksgiving’s coming up!

Wow, I absolutely love how they can make simple concepts, into fun, enjoyable, and complex lessons/discoveries.
Dear. Dr Roger Billings I enjoy seeing you each week and thank you for explaining things so well.
When did you start the science live program?
I love this lesson
I loved the science live to day
I enjoy science live. Morse code would be cool to learn. I recently started intro to physics and chemistry.. it is hard! But I like the challenge. Thank you.

Hi R-51! You’re my favorite!
I’m so excited to hear that Science Live has the potential to become an accredited science class! I was so shocked to hear how many parents brag on the internet that their children have not been watching live videos, blatantly showcasing their unwillingness to earn the priviledge of the scholarship.
Awesome episode Mr. Billings! I loved learning about morse code, and how to think like an inventor.
I just got my R-51 scribbler pen in the mail, I love science live and watching.
Hi from Georgia! Was AOL, and dial up internet the next messaging invention after Morse code? How did the messages travel through space?

Science Live is really motivational!
R-51 is so funny and awesome
I think you giving the scholarship to us is a great thing. And you will be blessed for it.
they should have dr Roger billings show up to prank r51 lol

This is very interesting and fun!
I’ve learned so much from the lives!
Morse Code is more interesting then I thought.
Hello from Florida
I love these discussions about Ham radios! I’m currently studying electrical engineering in my free time. I have an Arduino One breadboard set at home, which I’m playing around with at the moment. I accidentally blew out some LEDs by forgetting to put in resistors.
I got a lot of information from today episode.thank you
LOVE MORSE CODE❤️🔥‼️
Morse code is very interesting. One of my walkie talkies has a little bit of Morse code on the front panel. Love to learn more of it. Please add it to the activities.
