Radio Waves
November 12, 2025 • EPISODE 286
How do invisible waves travel across the world and beyond? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings dives into the fascinating science of radio waves—how they’re created, how they move through space, and how they make long-distance communication possible. From the basics of frequency and transmission to early breakthroughs like Morse code and modern applications such as HAM radio and space communication, join us as we explore the hidden currents that keep us connected.

How long did it take to design the watch?
I have a saltwater fish aquarium filled with fluorescent coral and I love how the black light shows all the different neon colors.
how long did they take to make astronaut suits??
Did the guy use a Rolex?
Dr. John, this is so interesting, I never knew that lasers could be that interesting

Hi from Nebraska! I love this video
Hello from Wyoming 🙂
Can we talk about the Aurora Borealis?
They will be visible tonight!
My first Science Live!
The watches for NASA is such a cool program. I cant believe only 4 companies responded
Why did they name the missions after Apollo?
How much time is required for gas when you land on the moon?
Hi from Georgia! I Love listening to you and Dr. Pajet. You’re both funny and interesting!

Hello from texas
i never knew you could use a laser to cool things down. thats awesome
Hi from Tennessee. Black light is a color you can’t see. I love science.
Great live! Cool lasers is a genius invention!
Is it true that Neil Armstrong was the first person on the moon?
I🧡💚🩷 science live
i find it quite cool that we made it to space, let alone the moon on 4 kb of ram
From Texas! Hello, science live!
What was the percentage that the Apollo mission was gonna succeed
Hello from Nebraska! I love science live so much!!!
I love this live! Space and NASA is so interesting to learn about!
When was the first rocket invented?
Hello i’m from vietnam
I love science live its the best!!!!!!
How many Apollo missions were there? How many went to the moon?
how do astronauts know when they are out of oxygen?
I never knew about a laser that has cooled.❗❤️
I thought it was so cool how they could make the lasers cool off the items!
nasa is so interesting. like its crazy all the equipment they have can do all of that
Go tobias!
Yo I love his tie
I wrote a book on the Great space race and It’s posted on the Acellus Library!!!! 😀
I never though lasers could be used to cool.
How long did it take for NASA’s plan to go to space?
Good Evening from NY, unique tie Dr. Tobias
When do you think humans will go to Mars?
Science Live is my favourite part of every Wednesday!
I like Tobias.
Laser is widely used in medicine these days. I saw them offered at the chiropractor office to release muscle pain.
i love science so much!
Tobias is great to listen too!
Loving science livee
I love the science live! Its always so interesting
Hello Dr. John, is this new laser-cooling technology capable of not only cooling but actually freezing things?
Seeing the Northern lights is awesome
if we can get to the moon, are we planning to expand humanity to different planets?
That’s unusual, who knew that you could you a laser to cool things down: the opposite of what you’d think!
I love Science Live, it’s so informative.
I LOVE ACELLUS
Science live rocks
Coral is such an incredible organism! It is crazy that something so complex seems so simple at a glance.
I really love learning and Acellus makes in funn.
I love fluorescent colors. So bright 🥰
Science is amazing!!
Hello I am from San Antonio, Texas as-well, as others have stated too! I am an 8th grader in Acellus! I would like to see more about space and computer technology!
Interesting. You are my favorite teacher dr john
wow i didnt know that lasers can cool stuff
Here from Nebraska i wonder if you could use the laser cooling for fires
Science is SO wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!
Hey from Tennessee
tech spotlight is great
Hello, from Idaho! These lives are the highlight of my week.
That’s insane how lasers can cool stuff. : ]
How big are these lasers to cool the chips? I would imagine that the lasers would be extremely small.
What is the strongest metal that a laser can actually cut through?
Hi! I love the ✨ colors ✨ in the little jars 💛🩵
I love science live!!!!
Wow, the concept of color science and laser technology is so intriguing to me. I hope we can cover more about this topic in the upcoming future.
Science Live is so cool!
hi from Montana
Hi from Texas!!!!! ☺️😄😄😄
Hey this is Victoria from Florida! ✌🏻
What are some of the benefits of laser cooling?
Hi, from Arkansas! This is my first Science Live video!
Fluorecent green is my favorite color now
Wow really that’s awsome
I found the lazer cooling effect super interesting.
How do corals form in the ocean?
Watching from Miami, I love science lives!
Hi, from Kansas. Science Live is always amazing.
Can we talk about the aurora borealis? So pretty last night!
Science live is so entertaining ✊
I enjoy watching Science Live every Wednesday learning something new.
I LOVE SCIENCE LIVEEEEEEEEEE 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I heard blue light is bad for us and red light is good for us, I would love to hear your thoughts!
I have always loved watching your lessons on science live!
What makes these corals interesting is that they’re florescent and can change colors depending on the light. This is a really great episode! 🙂
Do the hammer corals have strong protection?
How many bioluminescent coral species are there?
How many different florescent colors are there?
Those are beautiful corals.
Hii from California! Can’t wait to see what DRB has to say today!

Beautiful corals in black light
The hammer coral is really cool I think how they turn colors is really cool
Hi from North Carolina!!
Anyone else from Maine??!! We love science live!!!!
Hello from Florida! I have a question for Dr. Billings: What advice would you give an aspiring teen scientist who may not have access to all the materials they need to work on the invention of their dreams? How can we work on our creativity and use what we have to design something?
those are some nice coral colors and its awesome how they change color.
Coral is so pretty!!!
I never knew lasers could cool things down or florescent coral exists!
My mommy likes that she can see how far I am from completing a class.
I never thought lazers could cool things!
Wow those colors are gorgeous!
Why does the coral have different colors?
The coral colors remind me of the movie Avatar!
I didn’t know you could use lasers to cool stuff down, that’s cool
I didn’t know that lasers can cool things
Making an intentional space between learning periods is so crucial to information retention. I find that I am able to learn so much more when I spread out my learning into specific incriments and let the information settle compared to cramming a larger amount of information into a shorter amount of time.
Hello from North Carolina! I love being here every week! Which section(s) is(are) your fav? I really like the tech spotlight!
I always thought that chunking and consistently studying is better than cramming. I am happy to hear that. I love the analogy of studying and working out in the gym. When we work out, consistent workouts build muscle, therefore consistent studying helps enhance learning.
I….LOVE ………….ACELLUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
those are biolumenescent aren’t they
The coral that Dr. John was talking about is so beautiful.
Hello! I’m from MO I love science live!!!
Hello from Kansas
Hello from Virginia! I think the part about the lasers are really cool!
Hi from Florida, excited to learn something new and fun.
how are the corals floresent?
Hello from Williston! I love Hydrogen just like Roger!
When will we get Todd Edmond’s course?? I can’t wait!

Never knew that lasers could be used to cool things down.
Hello from Texas!!
Hey from North Carolina!
Hello, I’m Noah, from West Virginia.
I love R-51!
From texas! Love science live! So cool!
Using Lazers to COOL things down, now this’ll be intriguing. 🤔
I wonder how cool a laser can get.
So beautiful that there are northern lights in Florida. I am excited to watch this live science.
I never really knew that lasers were able to cool things!
Science is my favorite subject !! Makes me wanna learn more !!!
