Radio Waves

November 12, 2025Β  β€’Β  EPISODE 286

How do invisible waves travel across the world and beyond? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings dives into the fascinating science of radio wavesβ€”how they’re created, how they move through space, and how they make long-distance communication possible. From the basics of frequency and transmission to early breakthroughs like Morse code and modern applications such as HAM radio and space communication, join us as we explore the hidden currents that keep us connected.

I didn’t even know what fluorescent actually meant until today so this was very cool to learn. Something as simple as a watch having possibly saved the lives of those astronauts is absolutely amazing to me. I wasn’t all that interested in radio until now but a course on radio seems like a lot of fun.

I thought it was cool that they are thinking of putting the quantum computer in space because it is really cold because I know how important it is for our electronics, like computers, to not overheat and space would be perfect for that!

It was shocking how a watch could work in space. The omega watch saved Apollo 13 by being the only watch to tell him in space. It helped time the burner to 14 seconds because if they were off by even a single second then they would have missed earth. It was also neat to learn the lasers down only heat up objects but can cool them down as well. This live had a lot of information on it and I really liked it.

neuroplasticity improves with consistent studying and if you do a little bit everyday it improves the ability to retain more information and its easier and better than cramming study sessions for tests. the spacing affect is a better way of studying with small amounts of time everyday it helps your long term memory and keep information you are studying and learning.
