Radio Waves

November 12, 2025  •  EPISODE 286

How do invisible waves travel across the world and beyond? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings dives into the fascinating science of radio waves—how they’re created, how they move through space, and how they make long-distance communication possible. From the basics of frequency and transmission to early breakthroughs like Morse code and modern applications such as HAM radio and space communication, join us as we explore the hidden currents that keep us connected.

First, we learned about the powers of the parent of an Acellus learner. There is a page in the parent area of Acellus which grants them access to know how much time it will take to finish a subject, our grades, and everything we do on Acellus. Parents can also change our steps, add new courses, and peek into our school days. From my own personal experience, they know how to know when you’re cheating on a review by skipping all the questions.

Next, Mr. Tobias told us about the Omega Watch. It was used by astronauts in space to keep track of time. It saved lives countless times because time is crucial in space. Everything in space is scheduled down to the second. Without watches, people could run out of oxygen because they forgot how long it had been since the last refill.

Lastly, it’s your favorite robot R-51! Today he tried to use a microphone to call up Pajet’s planet. I don’t think he knows that he’s on it. He accidentally reached out to some Martians and transported one to Area 51! Now he has a little friend that can keep him company.

Omega, founded in 1848 in Switzerland, is renowned for precision and innovation. It became the first watch on the Moon in 1969, when Buzz Aldrin wore the Speedmaster during the Apollo 11 mission. Omega has been the official Olympic timekeeper since 1932. The brand introduced the revolutionary co-axial escapement in 1999,
reducing friction and improving accuracy. Its Seamaster line, launched in 1948, is famous for diving performance and as James Bond’s watch since 1995. Omega also pioneered anti-magnetic movements, with some models resistant to over 15,000 gauss. Part of the Swatch Group, Omega combines heritage, technology, and style in every timepiece.
