Radio Waves
November 12, 2025 • EPISODE 286
How do invisible waves travel across the world and beyond? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings dives into the fascinating science of radio waves—how they’re created, how they move through space, and how they make long-distance communication possible. From the basics of frequency and transmission to early breakthroughs like Morse code and modern applications such as HAM radio and space communication, join us as we explore the hidden currents that keep us connected.

thank you for another great episode.
I liked the laser part!
Love this episode! So cool!
I learned that radio waves can travel long distances, but their clarity and strength can change depending on its environment. Can you explain how different factors such as weather conditions or distance can affect how radio waves travel and reach the receiver? Thank you.
I love science lives!
I LOVE SCIENCE LIVE!!!
Thank yall for doing this science live every week! I really enjoy it.

I really enjoy learning with Acellus!
acellus is a amazing program.
R51 is so funny I need to get every shirt with him on them.
Having a Morse code class would be fun
Whats the practical application for lazer cooling in a modern consumer setting? Not for quantum computing but rather general computing. Could it be cheap or efficient enough to replace or work eith methods such as liquid cooling and general airflow heat sinks?
R51 is hilarious I love this live
I am so thankful for Acellus and all that if offers me as a high schooler with flexibility and learning. Technology is a gift for this!

I love watching science live it is the highlight of my week!
I love learning with Acellus and social studies is my favorite subject.
Same!!! Social studies is my favorite course too!
Why do we research more things about space than the ocean?
Because they have figured out how to keep oxygen in for space but they still can’t deal with the pressure from the ocean. But I had also had that question at one point.
Because there is inevitably more to learn about space than there is the ocean.
I think it’s because we haven’t invented a submarine that can go very deep without without being crushed
It’s crazy how many things that impact us so much exist that we just can’t see with the bare human eye.
Love these lives
I love these videos every week, I cant wait for the next one!
I loved R51’s segment this week, it was really funny! My dad is really into ham radios, I bet he would’ve loved this episode.
