Radio Waves
November 12, 2025 • EPISODE 286
How do invisible waves travel across the world and beyond? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings dives into the fascinating science of radio waves—how they’re created, how they move through space, and how they make long-distance communication possible. From the basics of frequency and transmission to early breakthroughs like Morse code and modern applications such as HAM radio and space communication, join us as we explore the hidden currents that keep us connected.

I love the shows!!!!!
Very interesting how radio waves work, My dad works with Remote Sensing satellites and is always talking about transmitting and receiving signals. Makes more sense to me now
Hello from Dallas, Texas.
I love watching Science Live.
I think pilot classes would be very interesting to take to just learn about it
what do you think the affect on the earth will be after the sun releasing a solar flare?
I like learning about learning about radio waves.
Honestly, I never knew lasers could be cold, that’s fascinating.
Wow! That’s cool I like to learn about radio waves :3
R 51 is very funny
How many tests did the other two watches go through till they failed?
I loved the topic on radio waves!! That was so awesome!!!
Why are lasers usually always red?
dang thats how radio waves work?!?!
Is it true the red aurora borealis can cause unstable power grids, power outages, and etc.?? Also enjoyed the Live just figured I’d ask.
I LOVED SCIENCE LIVE!!!
I enjoyed learning about the radio waves and how the omega watch was useful in space.
Why do atronauts have to wear those suits when they go in space.
Love the school and the science live
I enjoyed this live!
I can always count on the science lives to make me smile 🙂
Aviation courses would be really interesting.
A class for learning how to fly a plane might be cool
That was cool and crazy
This science live was great!
R51 IS SOO FUNNY!
I think it’s really cool that omega made watches for space exploration. It was so good that Neil Armstrong and his partner Buzz Aldrin used it to help them tell the time on the moon.
Good evening! Just curious, when was the first radio invented?
Learning morse code is cool!
WOOOOOOO SCIENCE LIVE IS THE BESTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!
i would be very interested in the ham radio course!
this was a really fun live!
Hi from Delaware!
Fun video ❤️
the radio classes sound like a good idea I want them
I would love to learn morse code
It was very interesting to learn about morse code and radio wavelengths!
Yay! That was fun!
Thank you I like learning about wavelengths the way you explain things makes more sense then to read in a text book.
Another nice Science Live. Thank you so much!!!!
Yes, I would like the classes.
Radio classes sound like a great idea. Can’t wait!
I think the radio class would be so cool!
what kind of training did apollo astronauts have to do before going to the moon?
My favorite part about the weekly videos is that i learn something new every wednesday!
Good night everyone. Thank you Dr. Billings and everyone that make Acellus great!
“Were waiting for elon musk!” I am giggling so hard right now.
Great show. Good night.
I loved this live it was so fun and interesting
i loved tonights show
Really enjoyed tonight’s Science Live.
I enjoyed this Science Live episode!
R51 is my favorite!
It’s always fun to hear his stories.
The girl who scored a 35 on the ACT was impressive.
I would like a ham radio class too
It was interesting to learn how radio waves work.
that was so good
How many things can the human brain retain in one day?
How do laser procedures/ therapys work?
How much was the radio tower?
Was Rolex a participating company?
What about a medical school/career prep course!
Thank You!
Can there be a radio operator class?
Greeting’s from Kentucky Mr. Billing’s! Great episode as usual. A radio operation class would be very interesting, and I might consider enrolling in it!
hi Roger I love the R 51
It’s cool to see how lasers are able to cool off materials in multiple ways. It’s really interesting to see you talk more in depth about the radio and specifically the ham radio. Hello everyone! Have a great day!
That was really cool! I look forward to the next one!
I didn’t understand how lasers could cool stuff down. Learning about waves and the Omega Watch in space were interesting.
Saying Hi from Texas!!!
This science live tonight was excellent!
That was awesome. R-51 is so funny too!
Hey Its Zoey Jenkins from NC! I really enjoyed todays talk on the morse code and radios and how they use the waves and frequencies to communicate a message to the recipient. Also the fact that the quality of the message is shown through the length of the waves.
Aviation classes would be so amazing!
I think that having a course that teaches us about how to be a pilot would be amazing.
That was funny
A radio class would be great! (Virginia)
Radio and pilot classes sound fun to take!
Thank you so much for another great episode. I really enjoyed the segment on Morse code. I have always found that invention extremely fascinating. I also loved the part where you talked about the northern lights. We got to experience viewing them last night and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you again. I always look forward to these Wednesday nights.
It would be cool to learn how to fly a plane
R-51 is so funny I feel like I’m just like him, we think the same way lol
I love the science live
its so cool how radio waves can work and amazingly awesome!
Thank you roger billings
I love watching Science Live!
Aviation PLS!!!!!
Its truly crazy just how far we’ve gone with space technology, to think that in just more then 60 years ago nobody could of even imagined us going to the moon but now we plan to go to mars, I’m sorry buts that’s a crazy comparison.
WOOOOO SCIENCE LIVE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How long did it take for NASA to make their space suits?
Thanks! This weeks Science Live was great!
I think it would be beautiful to see the northern lights.
That watch that Tobias talked about is actually really cool! High temperatures, low temperatures, still worked after all of that, pretty crazy!
LOL it’s climbing on the wall
Great video as always, Mr. B!!
I love R-51!
Why did the first 2 watches stop working after losing air and changing the temperature? Did it have something to do with the lack of air, or did something inside the watch stop working due to a change in temperature?
I enjoyed seeing the segment about space and the omega watches. Did you know the Omega Speedmaster is the only watch certified for all NASA manned missions. These watches were sent on a year-long mission in space to test their resilience!
I LOVE the r51 episodes!
I think a ham radio and flight course would be very interesting!
Haha! R51 is so funny!!
R-51 cracked me up
It would be amazing to be able to take a pilot course on Acellus!
I thought the thing about the astronaut wearing the watch was cool!!
“We are scientists, we know how to handle dangerous things” is a beautiful line lol
Area 51 makes my day!
I saw the northern lights too.
It’s really interesting and enriching the variety of subjects that the Acellus live covers. I’m sixteen years old and I’m graduating soon along with my siblings. And I’m just so grateful that I have the opportunity to study on this superb platform.
Watching from Georgia, this live is a blast!
From mars? Elon needs to hurry up to save them
I Love science!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the watch the astronauts wore was really neat.
Elon Musk 😂
This was actually my first time learning something about morse code, really cool to think about!
It’s crazy that radio waves work like that!
Bye r51 and Dr Billings
I love science live
Both classes would be appreciated
The skit with R-51 and Pajet was so funny!
I really enjoy science live.

How far can radio waves go?
I love R51
Radio waves are so cool can’t wait to learn more about them!!!
It’s very interesting to hear about how radio waves actually work, and that they can even travel the world with the right radiation conditions.
The shirts everyone made are so good!! Proud of the students that made the shirts.
I’m so excited to get one of the new shirts! Also I find it really cook that Snoopy was the mascot for Apollo 11!

Good job on the t-shirts everybody!
I have always wanted to learn Morse code
This was a very interesting lesson Dr. B! Too bad we couldn’t see the northern lights down here in Texas, but it’s amazing to be a part of Acellus and Power Homeschool 🙂
Some time in the future, will we be able to live on the Moon or land on Mars?
I’m hoping I can see the Northern lights tonight!
