How We Make Rockets That Reach the Moon
Join Dr. Roger Billings and the Science Live team as we explore how we make rockets that reach the Moon, featuring NASA’s Artemis II mission — the first crewed return to the Moon in over 50 years!
In this lesson, discover what makes the massive SLS rocket so powerful: its giant solid rocket boosters, liquid hydrogen fuel, and the incredible engineering that lifts millions of pounds into space. You’ll also explore the advanced Orion spacecraft, the groundbreaking laser communication system that beamed HD video from 240,000 miles away, and the record-breaking 252,000-mile journey that took humans farther from Earth than ever before.
Whether you’re a budding space enthusiast, curious about the Artemis program, learning about rocket science, or dreaming of becoming an astronaut, this lesson has something for you. Perfect for students who want to understand the real engineering and technology behind sending rockets — and people — all the way to the Moon and beyond!

The advancement of technology has come a long way since the 1960’s
It was sooo cool to watch the capsule fall to Earth again. Needs some work in the plumbing to run things smoother next time though, haha.
I loved today’s science class!
When it’s anything about space or going to space I love it.
I am so fascinated by space travel! -ZoeyC
When did we start exploring space?
What is the closest planet that could be habitable by humans?
I’m excited for the next Science Live, they’re great additions to the week.
Thank you.
I’ve got a great idea! There should be an,”ask Acellus” section in science live where students can report problems an acellus answers back!
nothing like science life on a spring night while the fireflies glue
I watched the Artemis landing and it was certainly the extraordinary thing I’ve ever seen! Amazing Science Live as always!

Loved this !!! See you next time .
loved this one!!!
thank u for today’s video I really enjoyed it
I flew on a plane for my first time last year
I took the college prep English course and it was very helpful!

Could there be a hydrogen powered rocket?
R51 made me laugh!
This is the best video I’ve ever seen!!!!!!!!!!
I love science live!! ^^
I love space missions!
I liked learning about what is happening in outer space, and how MIT helped NASA make new technology and how technology is improving in sending data through outer space.
Next trip: Mars! (fingers crossed, anyways) :3
this life science was so fun!
It was incredible to learn about how rockets are created. I always loved space this video was great.
This week’s science live was really cool, it was fun learning about our most recent trip to space!

I think space is really cool.
I love rockets! This science live was very fun
This is so Interesting
It was neat to watch the Artemis 2 capsule fall back to earth. I hope the next missions go a little more smoothly in the plumbing department.
totally agree
that was so cool
I really liked this episode of science live and liked the idea of them making it to space

Science live is one of my favorite parts of the week
I want to be an astronaut!
l loved watching this. I visited the National Air and Space Museum last week. And we going going to tour Mission Control in Houston next month.
Good for you
How do they send messages from the Moon to Earth so far and fast?
So Cool!
What year will we be touching down on the moon?
Hi I love acellus
I like this show, it interesting to hear about things that we made over the years and how science live tells us how they were made or how they came out to be.
I feel like the most important reason for going to Mars should be the research opportunities. We have so much to study on Mars, like how it’s gravity effects other planets, how it might have had a atmosphere and water, and how we can create terrariums and purify soil. We shouldn’t just think of it as a back up planet, but a learning opportunity to learn more about taking care of our own planet. Did you know that during the Apollo missions, only three people had the ability and autherization to pack the parachutes on the capsules?
Amazing science live this week! I really liked the lesson from Dr Tobias
How do you make a small experimental rocket?
I loved the part about the crocodile like creature that ate dinosaurs!
I watched the rocket launch at home with my family
Thank you so much Dr. Billing for teaching us these things.
I’ve had dehydrated astronaut food at the space museum in San Diego.
This new Acellus course is definitely something I will need. As someone who has a fear of publicly speaking to a crowd, or even just one person this will help a lot. I am excited to become an Acellus graduate, I just need the proper guidance to be able to speak without fear especially when it comes to the work force.
I love rockets. They are so fascinating. I love how the turbo engines work.
My family and I were in Florida and were at the local beach really close and got to watch the launch of Artemis 2 on April 1st. It was the perfect day. It was my mom’s birthday, we got up early went kayaking then to the beach for the afternoon. Then finished the day off watching the launch. It was so AWESOME. We were close enough we felt it and it made the metal fence by us rattle. And thanks to Acellus I get to do things like this, travel and experience life….not just sit daily in a classroom!!!Thank you for all you do.
This is so interesting
Rockets are so cool i want to be in one
Great Science Live! You always explain things so well!

Hi Dr. Billings,
I’m working on being more open about who I am and how I express myself. I want people to know that it’s okay to present yourself in whatever way feels right for you, and that nobody should be judged for being authentic. I’m hoping to encourage others to feel confident expressing themselves too so if you can give me a shot out next week and spread this message that would be very help full thank you by the way my name is keegan also love the video
Thank you Dr. Billings for this amazing video!
