How We Make Rockets That Reach the Moon
Join Dr. Roger Billings and the Science Live team as we explore how we make rockets that reach the Moon, featuring NASA’s Artemis II mission — the first crewed return to the Moon in over 50 years!
In this lesson, discover what makes the massive SLS rocket so powerful: its giant solid rocket boosters, liquid hydrogen fuel, and the incredible engineering that lifts millions of pounds into space. You’ll also explore the advanced Orion spacecraft, the groundbreaking laser communication system that beamed HD video from 240,000 miles away, and the record-breaking 252,000-mile journey that took humans farther from Earth than ever before.
Whether you’re a budding space enthusiast, curious about the Artemis program, learning about rocket science, or dreaming of becoming an astronaut, this lesson has something for you. Perfect for students who want to understand the real engineering and technology behind sending rockets — and people — all the way to the Moon and beyond!

Loved this weeks live sooooo funny.
I think it would be so funn to go visit space.
I love the idea of going to see new planets with living animals, but first I bet we’ve got to go to mars. So see you on my last day of science live ( best program ever) who knows what I’ll hear on my last day! have a great day and thank you for discussing -and the others- about the latest travel to the moon!
What was the longest science live you’ve done?
it would be nice to see the planet

This video was so interesting!
Cool stuff!
I enjoyed the video and the facts about Artemis 2. Thank You.
So cool!
It’s so interesting how people have gone into space and been on the moon. It’s always been one of my biggest dreams to learn more about space and stars.
i love science lives.!
The inside of the spaceship looks cool.
Rocket science and space has always interested me.
I learned that Elon Musk does not use hydrogen for his rockets.
What is a Deinosuchus?
I loved learning about the rockets and how the fuel worked, I had a lot of fun watching this weeks video. Thank you so much for making them, I look forward to next Wednesday.
I would love to go to space.
How do you get a rocket that is 6 million tons into space it feels impossible to do and i wonder how much fuel was used for the boosters because to have a booster lifting with 8 million tons of force its pretty mind blowing
Rocket science is so cool
So awesome to have this lesson, at this time.
Science Live is so cool!
If we ever do live on mars, it wouldn’t be within this millennium. It very well could be in the 23rd century or even past that from how hard it is to get on mars at the time.
that is cool
Awesome Presentation!
tysm for showing me this
I actually saw the Artemis II launch at Kennedy Space Center, it was incredible to watch.
R51 is so funny!
R 51 is so funny and the joke was kinda funny this science live video was interesting it’s cool how you showed us the rockets they looked awesome and ty for making a video about rockets reacheing the moon I liked this video
Fun episode, I’d like to visit space!
Amazing video, I always love all the cool facts!!!!
Ironically i’m writing a story game about spaceships and astronauts! great episode
I also want to go to space

Why was Pajet an astronaut?
The rockets looked so cool
rocket’s are so cool to learn about
If you could go to any planet, what planet would you go to? (I personally would go to Pandora. Yes, Ik it technically does not exist. But let me live.)
those rockets were so cool
Science alive is amazing
Will they make rockets larger for more gear to fit in the rocket or smaller so the rocket is lighter for more gas in it later on ?
I love space and i wanna go visit the moon and the earths atmosphere
thats so cool

I like the Artemis information. I like learning about the rockets. R51 is funny with his moon rocks.
A great live this week
since water exists outside of earth does that mean life exists outside of earth?
Watching the Artemis II launch was almost surreal! How insane is it that we’ve managed to invent something like rockets and means for space exploration? I love learning about this stuff, and I’m looking forward to future lives!
I loved hearing about the astronots!

I LOVE IT
I would love to go space one day and see all the planet.
Why is there a cardboard cutout of Pajet Monet in Area 51?
Since there has been Mars landings, they know that there is methane. Do they know and how have they been able to determine that there would be sufficient methane to boost the rockets back to earth?
i really liked learning about how they send rockets to space and i was shocked when i found out to like stop it it gets hotter than lava
That Elon musk joke had me laughing so hard!!
