How We Make Rockets That Reach the Moon
Join Dr. Roger Billings and the Science Live team as we explore how we make rockets that reach the Moon, featuring NASA’s Artemis II mission — the first crewed return to the Moon in over 50 years!
In this lesson, discover what makes the massive SLS rocket so powerful: its giant solid rocket boosters, liquid hydrogen fuel, and the incredible engineering that lifts millions of pounds into space. You’ll also explore the advanced Orion spacecraft, the groundbreaking laser communication system that beamed HD video from 240,000 miles away, and the record-breaking 252,000-mile journey that took humans farther from Earth than ever before.
Whether you’re a budding space enthusiast, curious about the Artemis program, learning about rocket science, or dreaming of becoming an astronaut, this lesson has something for you. Perfect for students who want to understand the real engineering and technology behind sending rockets — and people — all the way to the Moon and beyond!

Does everyone believe that people went to the moon?
Thank you!
Apollo 11 Moon Landing had 3 astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.
They turned the rocket using thrusters—pushing gas out to change direction (Newton’s Third Law of Motion).
The science live today was great love learning the history behind the topics that I learn especially this one about how to send rockets to the moon with the recent rocket launching. Thank you
Hello from AR! I actually saw the Artemis II splashdown live on the news just a couple of weeks ago 🙂

Wow this was really cool! Thanks from Florida!!
I LOVE SCIENCE LIVE.
so Check out a few questions:
1. If I communicate by laser, how long will it take to send data from earth to the moon?
2. When the SLS, will it land where it is predicted or anywhere on earth?
please!
that is so cool, but I think that it was interesting, that it got launched on april fools day.
A college prep Engish course will really be helpful.
New classes please.
I love it 😍

Area 51 is the best.
I love science live!!! The pictures they toke from space were amazing it’s great there are break-throughs in space.
Could it be possible to attach a separate fuel cell at the end of the rocket connecting it by a thin set of pipes so that if needed it could de-attach although if they did need more fuel it could flow to the rocket through the pipes? just wondering
I thought it was very interesting about space but why are we still checking out the moon when there’s things like black holes, Neptune and more like the 9th planet you’ve talked about once.🙂🌑
Thank you, see you next week!
I think it’s really cool how Acellus is thinking about the kids that could use a collage prep English course for the ones that need it.
