How My Training As An Inventioneer Altered Ethernet
Everyone said it was impossible. Engineers laughed and called it ‘The Billings Folly’ — as a joke. Then the entire internet adopted it, and now the whole world uses it.
Dr. Roger Billings tells the inside story of how full duplex gigabit Ethernet was invented, rejected at IEEE standards meetings, and eventually became the global standard behind modern internet, streaming video, and AI.
Discover the inventions that made it possible — the concentrator, the equalizer circuit, and the balanced hybrid circuit — and hear what happened when Ron Crane, the father of Ethernet himself, stepped in to defend it.

I am so sorry my stuff glitched while i was watching and i had to fix it. But i love this episode
Hello from Louisiana
Good video very interesting 👍
R-51 is hilarious.
wideband is amazing!
I didn’t know that FPGA were faster then a CPU
R51 is so funny
I like Science Live
hello from netherlands
that’s a cool thing to make in a little bit of time
Hello, from Virginia!
I think all kids love to be rewarded so for the kids who struggle with school so instead of all the things being technology and merchandise in the shop, I think we should add a couple different things to make it more interesting so all kids can have something they like at least one thing is nice for example some kids like school supplies cool erasers, pencils that we can buy I think that would be very interesting and if a kid was struggling with school, maybe we can reward them once they get the subject right after they can get like a a prize from the shop please show this to dr. Roger Billings, please
How do you think Ethernet will change in the future?
Hello from Guam! ^^
hi from ga
I love acellus!
Hello from wy!
My favorite part is when R51 comes on! So silly!
i’ve been waiting for this!
almost over and it counted?
hello from tx
I’ve never seen area 51 so serious lol
Science is the best!
It’s amazing how much something can be improved beyond its original intent.
r51 is the best
This was such an amazing video! I’ve learned so much, cant wait to see you next time.
This was a amazing live!
Hey from Florida!
Science live was really fun today!
hello from kentucky
hello from minnesota
Love this show!
I learned about networks and how they were made to work faster for better technology.
have you thought about a Morse code class
Yes please do one
Awsome! love these sessions
Hello from TN!
So fun!! I lovee these lives!
i love the computer chips
Hello from Illinois!
hello from tennessee!
Hi from Texas!!
hi from Illinois
I love to learn about the Ethernet! My mom said that’s what she used to use.
Science is cool
Thank you for this weeks video
I’m so glad that we don’t have collisions anymore and can stream videos. The Proteges explanation never fails as always.
Hiii from Houston
hello from nyc
Comment Great Science Live 🙂
best one ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
from texas!!!
hey from sc this is a fun video
HELLO FROM LAS VEGAS
I love this week
Hello from MD, really enjoyed the live tonight
this is such an interesting lesson
Hello from Wy!
its crazy! ethernet is so ahead of time!
Thank you for Science Live and your inventions.
Love this science live
From Belize
I loveeee itttt
This week was excellent.
Rodger Billings is so great at solving problems, like the ethernet collisions!
I’m so happy to have a cellular regular school was so distracting I also got sick alot and now I focus and dont get sick thanks to acellus
Hey from NC!
greetings from DE!
Maybe a network would help to catch fish.
Heyyyy from NJ
Hello from Minnesota 😉
Hey from Tennessee!!! 😊
this one is great so far
Learning about a concentrator was fun
That was a pretty funny joke about going to the sun during the night to avoid the high heat. You can’t solve a problem if you cannot identify the problem correctly.
Hello from TX
Every Wednesday I learn something new.
i learned about gigabyte networking
Amazing video tonight guys! Thank you, see y’all next week!
Hello from Neveda!
What event in your life made want to pursue a career in science.
she is from Exoplanet Copper9 how is she a worker drone?
This is so cool!
Thank you! I love science live
I like DR. Billing’s Ethernet story.
Very interesting information on the ethernet system.
Science live is so exciting and so much fun 😆😉
Hi from ohio
here from Georgia! I actually liked this live.
I am interested in making solar power better. Somehow use it not for solar farms that isn’t good for the land or cost, but on top of everyday items more often. Especially in cities on buildings. We need to make the factories carbon neutral so they aren’t polluting the world when they make the panels. Sunshine is free!
Thank you!
Hello from AVL, NC
I am glad I got Acellus I love it. I love science live too.
i loved this episode so much!
Who was the first person to invent wires and cords?
It really is funny how some of the most simple solutions can improve the world.
Happy wednesday, ready to learn something new!
Thank you Dr. B and the Acellus team for another amazing science live!!!
I love y’all live so much
thank you
Hey! R-51 has returned! where else did he run off to over the week?
I really like watching Science Live
I love to learn on Science Live!
Woahhh! So cool.
hi from arkansas
This is so nice !!
Hi from NC
Hello from Houston!!
hello from TX!!!
how did they invent cords?
I love hearing Dr. Billings stories and about his inventions.
Hello from Massachusetts!
When is the next acellus world?
Hi Abigail! Acellus World will take place May 23-24! For more information, check this out: Acellus World!
Greetings R-51
This is so cool
Hello from California
Wow, that’s amazing! Not only did I learn something new about you, you taught me a lot! How inspiring
I learned a lot and science live is not boring.
What would happen if all of ethernet went out?
Who invented the spoons?
I learn a lot from Science Live!
I like learning from Science Live.
Love r-51 truly
ethernet sounds super cool my dad dose installs that for a career that is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo coool
HI from Texas!
I love ethernet and leaning about it.
It is true that the simplest solutions are often the most lucrative.
this live was very inspiring!!
Thats really cool
Thank you. I really liked this.
I can’t name a single time I’ve been bored watching live science.
Watching from IL
When is the Aviation course coming out?
this is really enteresting
Hi from New Jersey!
when will we have 1 trillion bit or even 10 or 100 trillion bit a second and 67
That’s so cool
This was a good one today!
I love learning from acellus

All the different circuits that can be made for computer chips are so cool.
hi from tennessee
Science live is truly amazing!
haiii from louisiana
I can’t believe how the Ethernet has evolved over the years.
Hello from VA!
I like learning more about science ever week
My mom says I’m a good problem solver so I try to do things by myself first.
Thank you for telling us about your hydrogen tank problem that you are trying to figure out. I hope you find a solution soon!
I learned a lot today. Thanks!
Is there something roger billings can’t do
Concentrators are cool.
Really interesting
science is the best thing that has ever happened to the world because if it was none-existent we would not have evolved in the way we have like for instance we would not have found out how a tornado was made or how to make many of the things we have already. Sadly I can not name any right now.
Hi from Texas
Hello from Ga
Have a good night
Good evening from Alabama!!
Todays episode is great!
Comment hello from New Orleans
Hi from NH!
Thank you for putting this on!!!

Hi myra here I had fun today
When will this injection be introduced globally?
Did Dr. Roger Billings work with a team whenever he made the Billings Computer?
How many megabits does the regular phone have?
There should be a Dr. Roger billing movie maybe there could be so who try’s to steal his invention but he still get it back
