IC – Divide by 3
How can tiny transistors do math? In this episode of Science LIVE with Roger Billings, discover how integrated circuits use logic gates and on-and-off transistors to multiply, divide, and process numbers. See how a simple “divide by 3” circuit is built—and how millions of these tiny switches working together make today’s powerful computers possible.
Roger Billings also talks about the engineering behind the Falcon 9 from SpaceX. In addition, learn how gallium could be used to generate hydrogen as a clean energy source, highlighting exciting possibilities for future energy innovation.

I enjoy the graduating plan, with goals all shown on one page i am so excited Thank you
So, if good bacteria strains can kill cancer, probiotics would be smart to take! The more strains probably the better, this sounds like something that could possibly prevent and cure? SUPER COOL
Acellus is the best!!
This episode helped me understand how digital logic works using basic on/off signals. It’s interesting how something so simple can power complex technology.
It was so cool learning about how transistors do math!
Love watching these, wish to see these in person!
I’m excited to see what we can do in the future with all these technology advancements!
Great science live today! The more I watch, the more I realize there’s a lot more that I don’t know about. Science live has been a great learning experience. Can’t wait for the next one!
It is fascinating what the human brain can come up with.
Always so fascinating and enlightening to watch these videos! Thank you Dr. Billings!
This is so cool. I’ve always used computers, but I never really thought about what was happening inside the silicon. It’s wild that something as simple as a logic gate can scale up to be a supercomputer. Definitely going to try and map out a simple circuit after watching this
Circuits are so advanced. It is amazing what little tiny things hide inside of everything to make a functioning machine
The brain is quite complex and interesting
Ms. Pajet was SO funny this week, I love these every time!
The bacteria fighting cancer cells are super interesting!
i love it when you guys explain what NASA is doing
The brain is really cool. My mom also loves the brain. She talks about it all the time.
I wonder how small transistors will eventually get. how much computing power will we be able to have in a space as small as a laptop? Also, I wonder what new sources of hydrogen we will discover as the world strives to become more environmentally friendly.
That is pretty neat how gallium could be used to make hydrogen even with impure waters to one day hopefully create a new avenue for more hydrogen powered products to be more affordable and safe for the environment.
I’m so happy for the advancements that have been made to fight cancer.
Now I know what mono means in sound selection. Always learning something new.
It would be cool seeing this in person
R51 is so funny
My mom thanks you for the high school information!
The brain is truly an amazing thing, pretty crazy what it can all do….. update please
I love learning about starlink. Aerodynamics are so interesting to me
The brain sure can do a lot of things! Such a cool episode
Dr. Billings is the best!
yay for claudia hahahahah
I thought the surround sound speaker that Tobias mentioned was quite intriguing.
Interested to see if the bacteria for fighting cancer actually works. That would be amazing!
That eye story was interesting
its very cool how they can put a certain type of bactura to kill cancer will it work??
What is the Bacteria made out of that fights the cancer?
I liked when Caleb and David talked an IC that can divide by any number up to 99, and I also liked the western division battle.
THE CANCER CELLS ARE SUPER INTERESTING!!!!!!!!!
Watching from North Carolina!!
good job western mathers
Watching from Texas
Our brain can do so much and we don’t even realize!
I’d love to get an update on the cancer treatment.
How can you make a digital clock using a decade counter?
the brain can do a lot of things
I love SCIENCE live.
this metal thing can melt on hot water that awsome
I like the part where they were dressed up like cowboys.
I liked the portages there funny
This is so amazing! I wish I could go to one of these in person!
Hi Dr. Roger Billings. This Wednesday class was so interesting. I liked to learn about How to Divide by 3 with IC. Can’t wait for next Week!
I liked the Proteges dividing device.
R-51 and the Protégés are my favorite part of the sience live.
I had no idea that our brains could do those things!!!
Dusty Dave and Crusty Cal lol
Our brains are so cool!
Had an amazing time watching this live cant wait for the next one. Im so excited to see what other lives are to come in the future. Im from GA i really enjoy the lives that ya’ll post i have so much fun watching them
I really enjoyed learning about Alan Blumlein!
I loved the western theme for this video
The brain is so amazing i hope this will work for all cancers
wow, that was so cool about the brain and stuff!
The cowboy part was pretty cool in my eyes, I really like the math inventions!
The protégé’s are great and r 51 is flipping stuff that we learn upside down. The new rocket sounds cool!
I loved the western theme for this one
thats a huge rocket
I loved the technolgy part this week!
That’s cool fact about gallium
Watching from Chicago! I love Science Live!
It’s so crazy that they can use any type of water for this.
Science is amazing.
I find the part about how stereo was created!
I want to learn more about the Circuit board
I love acellus live 🙂
I liked the r51
love watching science live so much fun to watch.
I did not know Alen blumlein invented stereo, thats really cool! It’s also fascinating how your ears and brain work together like that.
I loved the science live today : )
I was in California recently and was able to see the Starlink launch. It was a great experience.
I LOVE the protegessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
interesting about the graduation plan. If I know what I would like to do after High School can I go ahead and do a graduation plan now? I am currently the sixth grade.
Is there a high risk of transfering the bacteria elsewhere throughout the body when trying to kill the cancer cells?
