Binary Decade Counter
February 18, 2026 • EPISODE 298
How do integrated circuits actually work? In this episode of Science LIVE with Roger Billings, explore the fundamentals of integrated circuits with a closer look at a binary decade counter and how it processes and counts electrical signals.
Learn more about the Acellus Robot Dance Contest and Acellus World, coming to Kansas City in May 2026! And get ready to discover fascinating science in the natural world—from hydrophobic spiders that repel water to the surprising fact that rainbows include invisible colors beyond what our eyes can see.

thanks for the live!
yes acellus science
Waves move by the wind and wind is energy so if you convert that wind into a machine, you might get some energy but water is not energy the cells. I don’t know if the cells are energy but the wind could create energy for light .
I love the ACD2 robot!
liked learning about that spider. science might be my favorite subject, so thanks for talking about that.
I liked learning about the water spider!
The binary decade counter was so fun to see!

Is that a giant AC-D2!?
I love science live, I learn so much from it.
I love these! Awesome video
I love science live!!
I like the bigger robot
It was interesting to hear how the Social Emotional learning program started!
I love how the mother spider makes a bubble to be able to protect their babies.
I love how the guys explained the different components of the binary decade counter. It’s funny that one of the components is named “flip flop”. But it was cool to see the 2 different counters. Also looking forward to Acellus World this May!
The colors in the prism generate different temperatures, but the hottest temp was in the shade.
When do we use infrared?
Acellus World sounds so fun I wish I could go!
I thought that the hydrophobic metal was very cool, and I love how scientists take their ideas from nature.
Water spiders are so fascinating!
if I try to handle those binary decade counters they wouldn’t last a second in my hands lol. I enjoyed this lesson, it was cool.
The water spider is so interesting!
love this!!
I love robotics!
The water spider is awesome!
i like spiders
I love robots! I would love to make my own.
I would love to have one of those robots they are so cool.
It’s fascinating that scientists are creating new technology by taking inspiration from nature; such as the hydrophobic metal inspired by the Water Spider.
I loved this podcast so much!
Hi Acellus!
I love the little robot I want to make one for myself.
I loved the water spider!!
I wish I could get one of the robots. I’ll be interested to see what goes on at the science fair in a few months!
Really enjoy the videos we Lear something new every time.
the Robot is super cool! I can’t wait till i get one
the water spider was so cute and cool!
I loved this episode. The mother spider is so cute. I wish I could get the big robot on the Accellus store!
I cannot believe that no one did social emotional health! I’m so happy that im able to
vVery interesting about how the spider repelled water and someone may come along and use that technology.
I love science live. It’s so fun to watch!!
I love the little dancing robot
The spider is super cool!
this is probably the coolest one yet!
Hi this video was so good can’t wait for the next one. Acellus is the best!
I have a fear of water spiders, but that was cool
Hello from iowa! Loved this science live! I always love to learn some new!
Omg I loved the little Robot’s dance and song!
The water spider is so cool!
Very interesting! Spiders scare me.
I liked the water spider
That spider is cool!
I wish I had a spider
Learning to program the robot to do things is so fun. I love ACD2!
could we talk about the store next week and could we have the Acellus all the way on science Live all the way threw and could I personally now when Acellus world is going to happen the actually date of it.
Oooo that water spider was very interesting. Thanks for showing it to us!
Is there a certain number that they can divide it to?
Thank you a ton for this awesome video!!
I love these videos. Will robots take over soldiers jobs?
I love the little robot so much!
The singing and dancing robot, i can not so cute!
That robot is so cool! How much does one cost?
How deep can the water spider swim before getting crushed by the water pressure.
I love the robot!
I want a robot too!!lol so cute
It’s cool to know the infra red means below red
What is a gyroscope?
The robot is adorable wish i had one
thats so cool your biulding a big robot im saving to get a small one
Really entertaining lesson! Integrated circuits seem necessary for our lifestyles now!!
Socianal, I love that! I love blending words to make new ones! If we were all a little more Socianal, the world would be a better place. Thank you, Dr. PaJet!
This was awesome!! Thank you for taking your time and making yet another video!!
i loved Tobias segment
How do circuit breakers know when to trip
Love science live!
Do you think there will ever be a much more complex code outside of binary code? I know the code for robotics is different to us? Is it also binary behind the scenes?
The water spider was cool!
Aquatic Spiders seem cool
science is absolutely amazing
If you set the metal super hydrophobic metal tube in water does it rust?
I thought that the part where Tobias was talking about inferred and ultraviolet light was vey interesting.
The water spider has interesting behavior
I want a robot😀
I love science live from NC!
hello from maine
I like the part about the spider.
I watched with my brother Keaton. I really liked the giant robot.
That’s so cool me and my sister made a toy car our selfs it was kind of like that.
I liked the binary counter.
Science is the best
I don’t like spiders but this one was neat
This is a really cool concept that I never knew of before.
spiders are interesting but crepy
I love robots they are so cool
I think water spiders are very interesting!
Woooow that’s so cool 😎
The Binary Decade Counter, never heard of it, just like other things on here, I love the knew things I know about because of this!
I love science!
I love robots
So cool! the spider creeped me out though.
Congratulations Kelsey! Can’t wait to see your film!
finding the cow was fun
I LOVEE the robot!!!
So cool! 😎
That robot has quite the set of pipes! Surprised R-51 taught him.
Thank you Acellus!
Science is so fun!
Science yayayayyayayayay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Liked the spider part!

Always insightful – thank you
Science 🧪 is cool 😎
These videos never fail to amaze me!
I love science live and the way you teach it super cool and i love the Area 51 part
I don’t think I want a robot in my house, at least not a human like one.
Water spider!!! so cool
it was a really good video
Do you have a name for the robot
Researchers at the University of Rochester have developed a unique type of superhydrophobic (SH) aluminium tube which has very high buoyancy. This tube is coated with a special surface that permanently traps air and continously repels water, allowing it to remain afloat even if damaged or submerged for a long period. This tube will be used to increase buoyancy in marine infrastructures, repel water in surfaces that need to remain dry, etc.
I love science lives. They help me learn.
Yay science live!!!
That robot is so cute I love it and I wish that I had one

Wow i really liked this one codings always been a special interest of mine p!!
I love the robot im goona buy it soon.
such a good and funny video
I would be curious about of they will get the gyroscopes to stay in place? What will they use so they won’t float away?
I liked the part that talked about hydrophobic hairs.
very cool water spider ! hello from tennessee
I love Robots
Great session today….my daughter really loved the robot song and dance…so cool!
Hi, I really like the robots!
The robot is co cool!
It’s a great idea to get inspiration from the characteristics of water spiders living underwater and apply it in practice
Infrared is my new favorite color.
Is normal light, which contains all of the colors, warmer than infrared light?
I like the giant robot dancing
7 segment driver = translator! Love it!
Is normal light, which contains all the colors, warmer than the infrared?
Hello from South Africa!!!
Water spiders are pretty cool I’ll admit.
The water spider was really cool to see. I always enjoy watching science live.
Learning about the spider was pretty cool!
Robots are cool
I love Science Live! It’s so neat to learn about the underwater spider and how we can use that same technology as humans.
The water spider was cool but if I saw it live I would not swim again lol
I did not know that spiders can hold water on top of their bodies because of its hydrophobic little hairs, that’s so cool.
That’s so cool but at the same time so scary for someone who is afraid of spiders!!!
😆 The fish jokes are hilarious
I don’t like spiders but the water spider is cool
