I always found stuff that’s hydrophobic fascinating since it can’t get get wet and when it goes into water it gets this shiny thin coating of air! And it’s even cooler that other species like the water spider are born with hydrophobic like parts on their bodies!

William Herschel discovered infrared light by shining sunlight through a prism and placing a thermometer in each color of the spectrum. He observed that the temperature increased from violet to red. When he placed a thermometer just beyond the red light, where no visible light appeared, the temperature was even higher. This led him to conclude that there was an invisible form of light beyond red that produces heat, which is now called infrared radiation.
