Tuned Radio
January 28, 2026 • EPISODE 295
How do radios tune in to specific stations? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings explores the tuned radio—how circuits are adjusted to select particular frequencies so we can hear one station clearly among many. Learn why tuning is essential for radio reception and how the first wireless radio signal crossed the Atlantic Ocean, launching a new era of global communication.

What is the primary purpose of a “tuned” circuit in a radio receiver?
i really liked when tobias did the australian accent! The inventioneers were really great too!
Without wifi life would be very different.
this was fun i got to learn more about radios and blackholes
I would love the radio added in the gold store as a science fair project!
What do we know about black holes? How do we determine where they are?
The formula is such a powerful tool.
Highlight of my school week!!!
Radios are so neat!
it was so cool to learn about radios and how to tune them and use them thank you for another science live episode!
We are so blessed to have wifi and be able to do school at home.
This one was very interesting and funny
I enjoyed learning about radios and thread-like mini computers. I like the idea about making your own radio, it sounds fun.
I would love to earn gold to get the radio. I would also like to build the radio.

I love Watching Dr Billings!
R-51 is so funny
Radios are super interesting. It’s crazy to me how one message can get out to so many people in only one area with just one device.
Blue monster galaxies 😂
I’m so happy that Wi-Fi is a thing because everything that is easy would be much harder. At the same time though, without Wi-Fi the world would be a lot more vibrant, I feel like with the technology is improving so fast that everyone is depending on it and without it we would see more kids outside playing with their neighbors instead of staying inside on some sort of electronic.
so amazing I love science live!
Black holes are AMAZING! I love Science Live!!
The black hole sounds so cool!
I loved the radio and can’t wait for next week!!!

Wifi is used is so many other ways then I have imagined.
Wow, I can’t believe the name wifi has no actual correlation
I don’t understand how people lived without WI-FI. Everything i use is with WI-FI.
So many interesting facts on this science live!

Macroni was genius for seeing how to combine two advanced technologies
The radio stuff was interesting
Very inspiring Macroni story
if we didn’t have wifi a lot of our items and day to day activities and things won’t not work but we still be able to survive without it for the most part
Science Live is such a great family time moment for my family.
I want to try a radio!
I love music so I liked learning about the radio.
the black hole is cool
How much data can the cable transfer?
I loved this Science Live episode! Please keep doing R-51 videos because he’s so funny!
Learning about radios and how they have changed over time is interesting
do you think that in the future there will be smart eyes. and they will have to implant a microchip in the back of you eye.
we always wondered what Wi-Fi meant
How long did it take them to develop Wi-Fi?
Learning new things on Science Lives.
I love how much effort the put into science live keep it up!
It’s AMAZING that we might have computers in our clothing soon
Why was wi-fi first called IEEE 802.11
science live is so cool! Can’t wait for the next video
So cool to learn about Wi-Fi

these are so fun to watch
Great lesson I learned so much thank you!
Learning about how radio works was really interesting.
this is my favorite episode so far
I want a radio now.
MY mom said her favorite thing was radio when she was younger.
We love learning the history behind our widely (still used) science! Especially the radio, which still blows my mind how it came about.
Do you the thread computer chip will become bigger in overtime?
How did the computer cord survive the truck?
That’s crazy that they drove a truck over it
that would be really cool to learn to fly a helicopter
I learned that the fiber chip is a very thin thread which performs like a computer. It is also very flexible and has 10,000 transistors just in a millimeter. This thread is going to be used for smart clothes, gloves with touch sensors, and for replacing other electronics that interact with humans by these comfortable and flexible threads.
I love learning about the radio
This was one of my favorite episodes of Science Live.
Me and my brother just did radio marit bage for scouts.
I liked the part about the really thin computer chip it shows how far technology has come over the years. Can’t wait to see next weeks live.
My favorite part was the computer string its really interesting and i want to see it in the future

That was so cool and funny and Learned alot of stuff .
Acellus has been awesome to learn
Pretty interesting learning about radios
This episode was awesome, just like the others that came before it!
That’s insane seeing a computer chip in a thread!
About the first part now its going to be harder to identify what is real in the internet because of AI : /
I love science!
