Tuned Radio
January 28, 2026 • EPISODE 295
How do radios tune in to specific stations? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings explores the tuned radio—how circuits are adjusted to select particular frequencies so we can hear one station clearly among many. Learn why tuning is essential for radio reception and how the first wireless radio signal crossed the Atlantic Ocean, launching a new era of global communication.

I learned so much about new and old inventions thank you.
i would have them both to build or prefab. the prefab i would do some old world charm design
I love science live
I really liked the presentation about how a tuning coil was invented and how it works. My grandfather said he built a radio using a Radio Shack radio kit.
Hi from Texas! the radio part was cool
I did not know that Wi-Fi was a made up word. It is crazy how much of the world relies on Wi-Fi.
Helloooooooo! I love science live!
Really enjoyed this episode. Look forward to next weeks!

Thank you for teaching me about how they made Wi-fi.
Learing about the radio stations was really cool.
Radio waves and Wi-Fi! Oh my! R51 is always great! Thank you all and thank you, Dr. Billings!
Why do we use radio waves to communicate instead of other kinds of waves?
Thanks for teaching me about some taking radio waves from a black hole, the creator of Wi-fi.
Radios are so cool! I’m so thankful for them
Great live today! It’s cool to think about how something so simple to us could’ve seemed so far fetched to people back then. Can’t wait for the next one!
So cool, very interesting with the radio system.💻🙂
My favorite part about this was that the people acted really funny and they were acting like real pirates and it was really fun.

The proteges brought a very fun sense of humor to the show that helps break it up!
crazy how far tech has come
Yall should totally put those in the store!
I would like it if you put the radio in the gold store
wow so cool! can’t wait for next week
I’m always amazed on how the smallest of things can create some amazing things like chips, radio waves, and all of the other technology. I know people are afraid of chips in the brain, but to hear it being used to help those that need it for disabilities makes it worth advancing.
I love Dr. Billings!!!
i liked learning about the blackhole
hi I really liked the live this week it was fun
How far has a radio wave travelled?
cool computers on a string
I liked the video because it was informative and helped me better understand the topic.
love tuning into science live everyweek keeps me happy!

Amazing/interesting live as always!
Thank you for teaching me about wi-fi waves and how they work.
I think its so cool how, radio can be sent across the sea, thats really far. I dont think it would be hard to make a radio transmiter, all you need is some wire and some other things i dont know about. thank you Acellus
keep up the great work !
i love your videos
Dude, Acellus Science LIVE is awesome! Always glad to watch these videos, seriously highlight of my day!
How did electrical conduction lead to ac current development
I really like all the new things added to the weekly videos. David and Caleb are the funniest!
I like the radio idea and I think you should put them in the store
Who new computers can be that small!
This week’s science live was so interesting!!

I enjoyed learning about the black hole!
Learning how AM and FM actually work makes so much more sense now. Thanks for another great lesson!
Another great episode. Thank you!
Would it be possible to make a solar panel with the wire that has been researched in China?
Inventions can be done wrong, but being the first one to have the idea and to pass it to others make great discoveries! I really like how Bill Lear inspired you! I wish you a great year!
The black hole was super fun to hear about.
Loved the new science live video! Can’t wait for more surprising news!

Science is so cool
Glad to have another video!
Amazing video! Keep up the good work
Thank you again for a GREAT live!!!
I love learning new things
It would be cool if they talked about how when you use the computer fishing line. How they thought of the idea and how they invented it.
what a great episode..so excited for the helicopter class

Comment I liked the computer string
Its so cool that everything revolves around wifi if the world did not have wifi this world would be so different.
It is so awesome how you can change the channel on a radio and you should put the R-51 radio in the acellus store.
I think those string computer chips you showcased could be really useful, given they can be run over by a truck and still work.
How does the WIFI travel.
Science Live is Great I Would Love to attend
I love science live I would watch it all day every day.
I love space it’s really cool and i want to learn more about it.
im so excited to learn about radios!
Learning about the radio was my favorite part!
Hi Dr. Roger Billings. This Wednesday Class was so interesting. I liked to learn about the Tuned Radio. Can wait for next week.
How are they able to fit so much stuff on such little area with computers and technology used every day? Also how did they think to roll the computer chip like sushi?
Without Wi-Fi our world would completely different, it’s crazy how much WI-FI is used, also I didn’t know that WI-FI was just a random made up name.
I think the smart clothes is cool.
Love looking forward to science live!
Hey from New Brunswick!
I cant wait to watch science live next week.
