Tuned Radio
January 28, 2026 • EPISODE 295
How do radios tune in to specific stations? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings explores the tuned radio—how circuits are adjusted to select particular frequencies so we can hear one station clearly among many. Learn why tuning is essential for radio reception and how the first wireless radio signal crossed the Atlantic Ocean, launching a new era of global communication.

Thank you Dr Billings for all your time!
I can’t believe how much WI-FI is used in the world. I love learning about all of this different stuff.
this was so much fun to watch
What next, a radio message from the invention of the first radio? But seriously though, I think a touchscreen display that you can wear on your jacket sleeve and attaches with buttons or something would be really neat, and you could use it as a watch and other things, then take it off to wash whatever you put it on, while it can also survive being washed just in case.
I really liked the smart clothes Dr John talked about. Thank u all acellus staff!
cool video! I enjoy them every week!!
I loved learning today cant wait for the next science live
It’s quite fascinating how radios takes in sound waves and converts them into electromagnetic energy that is transmitted through the steptrum.
its amazing how the are trying to make a computer in string
The radio is a very interesting piece of technology!
Shoutout to that weather station for saying it’s sunny while it’s actively snowing
That pirate skit caught me off guard! LOL
Could the computer line be used as fishing line to find and catch fish?
How did they come up with the name WiFi?
Another amazing live!! Cant wait for next weeks live:)
Loved this episode!
Smart clothes sound so fascinating!!!
It was really cool learning about black holes
When you turn the radio knob just a little away from the right station, why do you hear static or bits of other stations instead of the sound just cutting out completely?
I think the radio was the most entertaining part i wont lie!
Is there any way for this string tech to communicate wirelessly?
Wow! I learn so much from these videos!
I thought that Wi-fi was short for something haha!
Radio frequencies are so cool. The fact there are so many radio stations to connect to is awesome.
I really enjoyed watching todays episode!
Black holes are always super interesting, I could read about them all day.
No way… we got ACELLUS STAFF SINGING IN 2026!?
It’s so interesting how they used to tune radios and how the waves worked.
Do you think the new computer chip in the thread tubes will be able to make people look invisible depending on the program to like mimick the environment?
Its so fun to learn about new things every week!
The inventioners (probably spelt that wrong 😅) were really funny. I hope we see more of them.

I would die without wifi. I play a lot of video games on my free time.
How does a tuned radio select one station while ignoring others?
At what point is it too much technology? Do we need clothes with computers in them?
Love this so much!!!
