Tuned Radio
January 28, 2026 • EPISODE 295
How do radios tune in to specific stations? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings explores the tuned radio—how circuits are adjusted to select particular frequencies so we can hear one station clearly among many. Learn why tuning is essential for radio reception and how the first wireless radio signal crossed the Atlantic Ocean, launching a new era of global communication.

what if we made a radio that could float
this was a enjoyable episode!
hi from Texas
we need that radio in the store!
This is interesting! I enjoyed this topic
I can’t help thinking about the threads with the computers in them. They could be woven into clothes and track your health. My grandpa checks his health through his watch, but having clothing right over the part of the body that needs examination and getting the i formation real time to transfer for medical treatment would be awesome. Is the technology currently ready to be wireless with those threads in such an application?
I think the way the radio works is cool
This is interesting and neat to learn about
WOW!!!! I LOVE DR. BILLINGS LIVE!!! THE WAY THE TUNED RADIO WORKS IS SO COOL!!! XD
What would i need to make a small simple radio?

If they pit that little computer in clothes what could it do?
I want a computer shirt.
This is amazing! Blessed to be able to watch these

I really liked the pirates!
Comment
My mom tells me you can’t believe everything you see on the internet all the time. My smart phone didn’t do so well with the toilet so I definitely won’t try the washing machine. Maybe if it had that new thread technology. Well if fishing line could do that I would be a better fisherman.
i really think this cool cant wait to learn more

what was the first radio made from? Was it loud?
What would happen if a radio station tuned on to the wrong frequency? Is it a common thing or does it rarely ever happen? I learned that the first radio transmission was done in the 1870’s. I always thought it was done later.
