Tuned Radio

January 28, 2026  •  EPISODE 295

How do radios tune in to specific stations? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings explores the tuned radio—how circuits are adjusted to select particular frequencies so we can hear one station clearly among many. Learn why tuning is essential for radio reception and how the first wireless radio signal crossed the Atlantic Ocean, launching a new era of global communication.

It’s so interesting how piece of tech that would be considered obsolete today would have been such high tech advancements way back whenever. Take laptops or portable devices in general for an example, even, say, an IPhone 6s that some would consider unusable today would’ve been unreal in (I think) 2007 when the original IPhone released.

From what I learned in this video Dr.John in technology spotlight said, that this thread was a computer chip made from China, so how they did it they made a super flat polymer and transitors and rolled it up and it’s flexible and can handle up to thirty percent of it’s length being stretched. They ran it over with a car and even said most of it can survive water damage. What I find interesting is that these threads could probably be used in everything future, games, computers, anything. We just gotta be smart enough to make it happen!
