How to Invent
November 19, 2025 • EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

The robot topic was interesting, I loved that you used Disney to explain it. The whole idea about how email came about is pretty cool too. Never knew this was how the concept of email was invented. I liked how you broke down how to start the process of inventing.

What if you are traveling?and you do not have connection.
I love problem solving
This makes me want to invent something!
wow so cool !
What is the hardest part of the invention process, and how do you stay motivated when an experiment fails?
Science live has helped me grow to love and understand science! Keep doing what you do!
Science is awesome!!!!!
Absolutely enjoyed this episode!

I love science live!
inventing is so epic
science is so cool!
I love that they do these for us
Science Live is awesome!
This episode was very inspirational!
I love learning how things are invented. It really interesting to learn how things have changed over time. Learning about the invention of email. My mom and grandma always tells me how much different life is now that we have an advancement in technology. From a world were we relayed on paper, pen, stamps and envelopes to a world where internet access is everything.
I almost sufocatted one time because I laughed so hard at R-51!
Morse Code seems like a very difficult “language” to learn. I always wondered how the telegraph communicators were able to understand and respond to and send the messages. I look forward to learning the next step.
Watching from Michigan, the programming of robots are so cool.
Inventing I’ve always though was if you had the will to do it, the right mindset and then you could invent anything you want!
Love learning about inventions
I love the “first email” ever sent. He’s right though! it was probably just another test. The message didnt need to be important. Thats hilarious
What are the first steps someone should take when trying to invent something new?
I think the Super Duper Comunicator is very funny
I want to invent something that will feed my lizard for me.
This is awesome
I enjoyed learning about Morse code.
Robots are gradually taking on more and more tasks. I once watched a video of a restaurant where food was delivered by a robot moving along tracks. Do you think robots will replace many different jobs in the future? I’m afraid that one day people might lose their jobs because of robots and artificial intelligence.
Homeschooling is amazing! Being able to have an education from anywhere is cool.
I thought robots were just gonna fall and use their arms to protect themselves. These robots are just dancing while falling and they look incredible. Eventually humans won’t even dance better than robots.
This is very exciting! I am enjoying learning more every time.
I think it’s cool Acellus is teaching us real world skills.
I love problem solving
Science is something we all can learn from, thanks for the opportunity!
I love to learn about science!!
by observing problems and trying to fix them
Science is so interesting! New Jersey
I’ve wanted to be an inventor all my life!
I have all ways wonder how the Morse code have and these videos help understand it all.
Dr Pajet, don’t listen to R- 51 plz. I dont think that he is really your favorite student😁😀 is he? I think u like all of us. R-51 is crazy. I believe he has got a few screws loose.
i have always wanted to invent something but i didn’t know how but Dr.Billings explained it in a way it is easy to understand.
i love learning with acellus
i love how i can come back and whatch the videos agian.
I always like science live nights.
I have always been interested in Morse code.
I always thought problem solving skills are one of the best skills
The process behind sending emails is so interesting, it’s crazy how much work was put into it.
I want to invent a time machine
love learning new things
Science is so cool!
I enjoy learning new stuff every week!
Science if my favorite subject
i look forward to this every week

i love learning stuff like this keep it up yall!
Part 2 please, I love it!
I’d really like to invent something! I’m always working on projects with my mom. We’ll have to come up with an idea of something to invent.
Thank you for showing me this video creativity is amazing.
It’s so interesting to learn about how creativity can be used to invent so many things!
I love watching science live!!
Haha I’ve never seen the @ symbol used for anything other than an email!
Creativity and problem solving is important for early and middle child development it was cool to hear some about it in this live.
Watching from Washington! I am super grateful for my scholarship, thank you!

I liked the part when they tought the robots how to fall.
Learned a lot of cool things from this lesson
Theses videos are so interesting catching up on the ones I missed on vacation.
We laughed at the falling robots from Disney! Their poses were great!
Thank you Mr. Billings!

This inspires my creative spark and I am happy they are teaching us how to problem solve
The invention process is cool!
It would be so cool to have a Morse code course!
Its great to know about the creativity and problem solving.
This one was peak. Also, Lady Pajet, you always have such nice fashion.
I’m glad that “No robots were harmed”
learning how things get invented is really fun
It’s interesting to learn that to invent you don’t need to come up with new technology but can take existing technology and apply it in a new way.
I can think of new ideas all the time, but sometimes I don’t know how to start.
I always look forward to these!
best episode yet!
I am super grateful for my scholarship! Without it, I would not be able to use this wonderful program!
I love watching the Science Live episodes!
Science Live is so amazing!
i wait a whole week for these videos i love them!!!
It’s Insane how all these different technologies are now an big impact in today’s time.
I’m curious how robots are gonna look in the future.
I honestly think whoever came up with morse code is a genuine genius.
Watching from Minnesota!
This live was one of my favorites!
I love debriefing about the lessons with my siblings we all have a lot to share!
It was fascinating to learn about the development of the various kinds of messaging. Very, very interesting.
I like your communicator
I’m glad for all the new thing I learn through science live!!
I loved this episode a lotttt!
