How to Invent
November 19, 2025 • EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

My mom and dad love all of your work 😁
The researchers at Disney are doing really fascinating things! Every day technology surprises me in terms of how far it has come but also how far we have to grow still. How will those robots be used at Disney? For movies? Loved this episode!
Hello from Illinois! It was interesting learning about Morse Code, but it was very hard for me to understand it by listening to it. I’m amazaed that people could learn to send and receive messages so quickly using Morse Code!
Roger Billings makes the inventing process look much less daunting!
I love watching Science Live episodes!!!!!!
This doesn’t have anything to do with inventing, but I got my new Acellus letterman-style jacket from the Acellus Store the other day and it is awesome! My dad watches Science Live with me and we try to watch every episode, but it’s usually a couple of days afterward. Happy Thanksgiving!
Simplesmente maravilhoso!
I love watching these lives! I have to watch them the day after since I have church on Wednesdays. But I still look forward to watching these on Thursdays!!
Thank you roger billings
Morse code is so cool, it’s like a secret language!
Hiii i loved this video although i was a little late in watching it due to traveling reasons but Morse code would be really cool to learn!!! Science ruless, so grateful for this scholarship!! Thanks Dr. Roger!!!
I have some ideas on inventing some stuff this is very helpful.
Dr Billings thank you for Science Live it is so interesting to attend every week and we look forward to it.
This is mind-blowing, that Earth can conduct electricity but I’m trying to picture how it works!
– How does the electricity actually make a loop inside the Earth to keep flowing?
– Does it just spread out or follow a path?
– Also, do we need a special kind of dirt for this to work, or does any ground conduct electricity?
This seems pretty complex—could you please do a dedicated session just explaining the science behind the flow? Thanks!
I absolutely loved this Science Live!!
Id love to see R51 do some chemistry experiments
With your explanation, inventing something sounds a little more possible. It made me realize that the inventors had no idea if something would work, they just tried their best and put together old things to create something better. So maybe I’ll invent something in the future
I want to learn morris code like you!
The vectored instruction is really helpful.
so happy to see pajet monet
R-51 is king.
Hello from Kansas! This was one of my favorite lives!
In the student spotlight, Tyler is right! I do much better in math after getting Vectored Instructions! 👍
Morse code is a really great skill to have incase of any emergency where you may not be able to communicate well, it is also fun to learn.
Wow, Acellus has such valuable information.
This episode is great. Thanks for posting these weekly, Acellus!
Hello from Afghanistan! Thank you so much for SCIENCE LIVE that was amazing and I learned many new things!
This science live helped me put my inventing ideas on paper and to really think about them, I can’t wait for the upcoming science live to continue on my journey with the inventing process.
This was a great science live. I love watching how people talk through beeps
Morse code is really cool! I’d love for it to be on activities so I can learn it!!
You are so funny r-51
I hear Morse Code has saved many lives.
My uncle showed me Morse code, my brother and I use it on our walkie talkies
morse code is so so cool to learn about!!!!!! thats so crazy that people can communicate like that!!
Science live ❤️
If you test your hypothesis and it is wrong do you just keep making a new one until you get it right?
I tried to learn Morse code once but it’s kinda hard to remember all the dots and lines. How did people memorize them so fast and easy?
I am SO THANKFUL for ACELLUS. This school changed my LIFE in ways i did not think it would be. This made me more eager about science even more.SO DR. ROGER BILLINGS, THANK U FOR CREATING THIS PROGRAM. YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW BLESSED I AM. THANK U!
Hi from Texas, R-51 is too silly lol
I’ve actually always wanted to try to fully learn morse code, this video might’ve just pushed me to try and actually learn it. Thank you Acellus Academy and Dr. Billings!
R51 is so funny!
I liked learning about Morse code.
Hello from Texas!!! Morse code is such a crazy language
I really liked Tobias part because, Emails are a really big thing in the world right now. I feel like everything is being sent through email now, everything business is sent in a email. I also liked Dr. Johns part because the idea of Robots are scary to me, they are really going to do most of the necessity’s that humans do today.
Happy Thanksgiving week! My parents are always saying the same thing…if you say you’ll do something, keep your word. Science Live is full of fun information, so it’s easy to keep my word of doing it. Thank you for the opportunity to help financially and also the fun content.
Dr. Roger Billings is very smart, he has changed the lives of many people. I love Acellus.
I love science! I don’t know what the world will be without science. The knowledge in this video is very good.
Dr. John technology spotlight is always cool. Robots could damage other parts of itself while trying to protect the sensitive areas.
love science so much and that’s why it’s my favorite subject, liked how you broke it down and made it so easy to grasp.
Thank you for teaching me Morse code Dr. Roger Billings.
I love R-51’s little communicator.
Thank you Dr Roger billings for talking about morse code! I wonder what you will talk about next!
Did WIFI come from radio waves?
I can’t wait for next week! i loved it so much
This was so awesome!
Do you think there will ever be hydrogen powered robots?
Hello from Colorado! i think that morse code would be fun to learn!
Coming in from Florida, Morse code sounds very interesting
R51 is so funny!😂 Also thanks for this lesson it was cool🙃🙂
Makealani from Iowa. Morese code seems so interesting and useful if you can’t communicate vocaly. Maybe I should learn 🙂
So interesting! Loved learning all about the telephone wires!
It’s really cool that every week we learn so many different things.
morse code is cool and would be super fun to learn
Inventing something would be cool
Thank you I love inventing
Science live is the best.
I know with out the scholarship, I would not be able to attend this school. We all should be doing our best to keep our word. I know life can get in the way but we should try our best.
I didnt realize how crazy it is that people communicate simply by using beeps. It’s really fascinating!
Thank you for teaching me about inventing. I have learned so much! Columbia South Carolina
Morse code is very intriguing and actually inspired me to learn a bit more about it I love science live
I’m Kingston from Georgia. I enjoy watching the live science episodes.
Morse code could be used in an emergency!
Morse Code was an amazing invention to communicate before anyone had phones.
Morse code is super cool! I’m excited to learn it.
THX for the wisdom, Mr. Billings! God Bless!
Parents speaking here, Just letting you know our household loves science live!
I really like how he explaines things. I understand him really good.
my mom always reminds me to focus on just today. One day at a time. Which is just like what you are saying about inventing. One step leads to the next step. Don’t get overwhelmed trying to get to the finished product.
The live was pretty cool! I think it is crazy how people went from mailing letters, emailing, and morse code to the way most people communicate now. Communication has seemed to develop a lot over the years. I LOVE mailing letters out to my friends. I think it is fun and creative. I love to write and then decorate the envelopes. Technology really seems to be getting more advanced.
Also, the robot thing was pretty cool to see as well! 🙂
How amazing is to get in touch with other peoples around the world , no matter how far with only one click. The email invention was great.
I think that adding Morse Code into the activities would be an amazing idea!!!!❤️
Write down your needs and turn it into a goal or a mission for you to achieve! I really like that phrase. Every time I learn more and more.
I enjoyed listening to what Tobias said, regarding how the “email” idea started out. I’m sure Ray Tomlinson had no idea, how massive his idea impacted the world, with sending messages and using the @ symbol.
I thought it was cool how inventions we use today started as simple ideas. It makes me wonder what we’ll invent in the future.
Acellus is truly amazing.
Its cool that Dr. Billings is an inventor.
What steps can you take to transform a simple idea into a tangible invention, and how do you overcome common obstacles like resource limitations or creative blocks?
what are the odds your invention is succsesful
I appreciate you honesty on the problematic people with the lowered cost tuitions. I hope that it eventually becomes more even for you and your associates. The lecture was very enjoyed today, we will be back again.
I am studying Morse code, and I think if R51 was my student he would be my favorite student too.
Hello everyone, I’m from Georgia. I love science so much. Hopefully one day I can invent something special.
Acellus is the best!!!!
Thank you for another excellent episode of Science Live! I hope the Morse Code activity goes well!
morse code is awesome! I have a chart printed out of Morse code and me and my family have attempted to communicate in beeps. It’s quite challenging!
Inventing is awesome!!!
I hope to be an inventor someday!
I think Dr B is one of the greatest inventors!
this science live is very intersing especially breakthrough moments in science
I’m not sure if my last comment went through because I didn’t put my last name in the top bar so I’m going to rewrite my comment😂 I think it’s so sad that some people are failing into hold up their promise to Acellus, I love and enjoy science live so much and I’m so thankful that the acellus team makes happen every week I also really like learning about Morse code. I think the history of it is so interesting.
What is a hypothesis?
I always that the @ symbol was created when E-mail started. Thank you Dr. Tobias for clarifying that.
r-51 the best!!!!!!!!!!
I love acellus and all the teachers ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😀
I love that Aceluss has vectored instructions when you dont do well on your quiz because it rellayyy helps me!
R51 is really funny!
I enjoyed this video! Morse code is so much more interesting than I thought.
I love to create and one day I hope to come up with an invention
I love when I used Morse code on a different school program I’m trying to learn Morse code here and there I think it’s really fascinating that people can talk using sounds
Billions of emails sent daily was an interesting fact! Looking forward to the next Science Live!
Science live is cool to watch!
It’s always so fun to learn something new every week will you guys, also every time I watch this live I get motivated to push forward in my studies have a great thanking week.
Iv’e always wanted to be n inventor, it looks so fun but it must be hard to come up with all those ideas.
I loved this video! I should learn more about morse code now
R-51 is so funny, He is one of my fav parts of Science live.
Vectored instruction really helps if you get stuck on a problem.
I’d like to learn morse code, it’d be good for emergencies were we can’t use our phones
I love the idea of morse code! I strongly agree with the decision of taking the scholarship away from those taking advantage of it. Not a good example to set and cheats you out of money needed to keep this program running.
Vectored instruction is such a great tool! It is definitely nice to be able to catch up on concepts, and with practicing, especially around finals!
I really enjoyed learning about how inventors come up with new ideas in this episode.
im a few days late but a big hello from Houston TX! i really enjoyed this live, i really like how inspiring the message was transmitted. It really making me think about what i could contribute and invent in some sense , instead of wishing things would be easier.
I am learning Algebra by going step by step which helps me to understand what math practice I need.
I like that the scientists used artists to draw pictures of the poses the robots could do to protect their battery packs.
Really insightful work. I appreciated the short tidbits of science news at the start, including the small section about Vectored Instruction, I’ll have to look into it later. I’m an artist myself, so I found the robots falling with style to be entertaining, love how much work they put into making them seem natural.
As for the main subject, I did really like learning about Morse code, and I’m interested in learning it myself; I had no idea the Earth itself could conduct signals. I hope to learn more about being an inventor next lecture. Hello from Jersey.
Dr. Billings is so smart and cool.
This video inspired me to want to be an inventor
What is everyone’s favorite part of Thanksgiving ! My favorite part is spending time with my family!
Hello from Georgia, I’ve always wanted to learn Morse code!
Off topic but I absolutely love the dad jokes because they make my entire day, lol
Thank you for this week’s Science Live video. My brothers and I really enjoy hearing Rodger Billings. Can’t wait for next weeks.
i would LOVE to learn about morse code!
i love your videos, always so insightful!
Me and my siblings love acellus
How did you get the idea for gold credits in the scholarship?
Morse Code is very cool!
Thank you for todays science live Dr Billings.
If I go back to public school at some point can I still watch Science Live?
Sometimes I like to imagine what it would be like to be apart of inventing something that will change the world. Like, imagine being Ray Tomlinson and seeing how that your invention created the main form of communication across long distances. To me, that would be really cool 🙂
There’s so many things humans have the ability to invent. The possibilities are endless
Who is your favorite scientist ?
How to study with Acellus Gold was very helpful. Also learning how email address were designed using @ symbol as identifier.
Looking forward to continuing the discussion on learning how to be an inventor.
Hello! I’m watching this live from The Bahamas. I loved the live!
Morse code is really interesting, its cool that we can communicate with others and actually understand it with just beeps.
Dr. Billings, what made you want to learn Morse code?
I want this conspiracy theory class to become a reality so badly. I will take it asap when it comes
This episode was amazing! I never know that’s how e-mails came to be, it surprises me how much US as humans change etc every year! Tobias rocks!
If you invent something groundbreaking and someone else takes credit for your invention and they make profit off of it, are you able to sue them and regain access to the profit?
My favorite part was when R51 developed the super duper communicator and was communicating with Pajet.
Hi from Florida! I would LOVE to learn morse code, it seems so interesting!
R-51 likes to invent stuff- but, random question, does he like spaghetti?
Had this company I’ve been wanting to make but this science live helped me brainstorm some new ideas for it.
Although at times some classes can be frustrating; vectored instruction has help me various times to move past a lesson that I am having difficulty with. Learning online can be hard but thanks to Acellus it doesn’t have to be! See you next week.
It’s called integrity! My son knows that if he has the scholarship, he watches and pays attention to science live! He has learned to really enjoy science live, and has really added to his education. He has me looking into a morse code kit now so he can learn more! Thank you, Elizabeth Hayes
Hi from Mississippi! Morse code is an amazing invention.
Science lives are so much fun, they make me really think about things that can make my or my family lives and now my gears are really turning.
Pajey should dance oh and I liked the little robots in the beginning.
Haha R-51’s bit was so funny!
MESSAGE FOR R-51! Lady Pajet cares for all her students!!! She doesn’t pick favorites!!
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to learn cool things about science
It’s crazy how invention have progressed over time!

I really enjoyed R-51’s communication invention! I thought it was kind of cool.
I have to say that I seriously love R51!!!
im from nebraska and ive learned morse code for a while now and i think its actually really usefull for certain situations
Can I have r51’s super duper communicator?
Some people have the greatest jobs in the world! What kind of degree do I need to be the guy with the stick?
how do you know so much about science 🔬
Science live is aways so intersting
An experiment is always needed to test a hypothesis.
Morse code would be so cool to learn!
Dr. Billings your so cool!!!!😎
We, Fallon’s mother and father are excited to see how vectored instruction helps her develop in the future.
Love science live!!😃😀😁😊
i loved this live, really inspired me!
