How to Invent
November 19, 2025 • EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

I never know that the history of Email was so interesting.
r-51 is too funny.
It was awesome how robots position themselves when they get hit, and without breaking its battery.
I enjoyed the information about Morse code and email history. The information about how to invent was really cool!
Science is my favorite subject. I also look forward to these Science Lives!
I really liked learning about robots with Dr. John!
Learning about R 51 is interesting!
r51 is awesome!
This lesson was very interesting and I appreciate all the love that was put into making this video. Thank you Rodger Billings!
Hi Ezekiel from Texas. Thank you for all your knowledge you share with us. What was your first invention?
Thank you Dr. John for this update on robots and their improvements at Disney and how to fall “in style” and how to fall where the robots do not get “hurt”. Thank you Dr. B for speaking on how to invent and delving further into the step-by-step process of inventing, than some of the previous inventing episodes. Also thanks for narrowing down how it all works regarding sending a message to someone who is really far away and how to solve the problems associated with that.
Hello from Tennessee. I really enjoy watching Science Live every week! Such a great learning experience.
Thanks for another great episode of Science Live! I learned so much about the @ symbol from Tobias. Since Dr. Billings is very knowledgeable about Morse code, can we have a course about Morse code?
I really enjoyed watching how the robots posed as if they fell on purpose.
Hello from Rhode island!
Hello from Massachusetts! I’m Shayla, and I’d love a morse code class. Dr. Roger Billings words encouraged me to start thinking about writing out morse code and memorize it to talk to friends far away. I’ve been using Acellus for a couple months, Math being rather stressful, but I’m getting through everything slowly, but surely. I love Acellus, thank you Dr. Billings and Lady Pajet Monet. R51, you will remain my adorable, but cheeky, pal. I’m here on Science Live every Wednesday, and I’ve begun to love it, thank you, again. P.S. I can’t wait to earn enough gold coins to buy stuff from your wonderful store!
I like R-51. He is the best .
I loved the new Morse code class and email how it works.
I liked the signal device when Dr.b was pressing the button and it was giving signals to other people!
Pajet thinks i am a good student too right? :[
She believes everyone is an amazing student. You are a wonderful student just like everyone else. Remember, not everyone was born smart, it takes a lot of effort. You have potential just as much as everybody else does, and I believe everybody will succeed. 💛
R51 was exquisitely surprise with paget response!
I love lady pajet monet beautiful fashion! she is my favorite 6th grade teacher ❤️🦋🌸
between you and me I like Dr b the most
i learned so much. These are always so interesting!

R51 is so funny
what an amazing episode!
The vectored instructions are very helpful I was previously struggling with literature but once I had the vectored instructions I understood it very easily. I’m really glad I started Acellus
it was cool how the robots fell when somebody push them with a stick and with their cool position.
R51 is funny.
How are the lengths between spaces, dashes, and dots standardized?
Lady pajet is the best teacher
i love r 51s jokes
nice video about morse code. i love how relatable this is to the lessons my grandparents taught me!
Morse code seems like a cool way to communicate and I’m looking forward to learning more about it.
I love r51 he is so funny!
Can you make a morse code in the activities?
I like the robots and Morse code and congratulations on your award Dr. Billings you have been wonderful to us all and we are grateful for what you have done continue to do and what is to come in the future.

Morse code feels like a great and powerful way to communicate with others and decoding it makes it more challenging and interesting.
R51 is so funny. I loved learning about the robot programming.
Morse code would be a fun activity.
Hello Science Live! Today was a very interesting lesson, especially about how the first email was sent. Thank you Acellus for another week of Science Live and I hope that everyone has a fabulous day!
I enjoy watching R51.
I miss the times when Pajet’s name was messed with during the opening.
I really enjoyed this video, I can’t wait till next Wednesday for more information about inventing!
Hello from Missouri! Thankyou so much for educating our whole family. We don’t have much time to ever sit down and watch a movie as a family but we always make it a staple to watch Science Live. We really enjoy it! Thankyou!
The way that they are making the robots to have safe falls is quite cool. I liked Tobias’s part too.
R-51 will never not be amazing
I love science live! Hello from New York!
r-51 is really funny
Area51 never disappoints because you always bring laughter to the show. I am so impressed with Morse codes, and I think it will be amazing to learn.
Wonderful live tonight, I love Pajets butterfly necklace. Also if I were a teacher
R51 would my favorite student too.
I love science live!
I’m interested in Morris code now and R 51 really made me laugh when he was saying that he’s her favorite student. I also agree with the terms of the scholarship because anyone who’s trying to trick the system, doesn’t deserve the scholarship.
Area 51 acts alot like me. He is so funny. My mama says I act like a clown.
What a coincidence I was just learning about Thomas Edison.
I didn’t know the @ symbol was used in different things other than E-Mail!
I loved this science live! R-51 was very funny tonight. And also it was nice learning more about morse code as well.

This was one of the best lives yet!
I really like watching Science Live and I learn a lot from it.
Learning about Morse code was pretty cool.
that is actually pretty smart to teach it to fall instead of just preventing it
Making a recommitment to look at our weekly lives or catch up on them in the week if we don’t do it on the same day it is live.
ANOTHER GREAT EPISODE ALSO R-51 is my favorite too :))
Hello I am Zoey Jenkins from NC, I enjoyed the talk about creating inventions and understand the problems and what you need to do to know that you have achieved them to make the world better. Really enjoyed todays science live!
Really enjoyed this episode!
very interesting, Area 51 is so funny!
I didn’t know the @ symbol was made hundreds of years ago. It is amazing what robots have been able to achieve in such a short time. I would like a Morse Code course.
I can’t believe that the @ has been around so long it is a really cool fact. It is very funny that email was started as a small side thing not as a big worldwide invention just a small fun thing that ended up being so useful to society. Also on a side note I didn’t know Dr. B created the hydrogen car. I think it is a very cool invention but isn’t it also very expensive to use? I can’t wait for the science live science credit system to work. I also can’t wait for the Morse code courses. I also wonder if they could make an ASL course? Also can they add more languages for us to learn for a course or extra credit or maybe just for fun. Also I love Area 51. Area 51 is the original reason I actually paid attention while first watching this.
I loved this episode I learned a lot of new things today.
That was really fun!I look forward to the next one!
My dad usually watches Science Life with me. He likes Lady Pajet and Joshua!

R51 is a DIVA!!
r51 is so hilarious! im cracking up!!!
Joshua, I like how vectored instruction helps people with the certain topic they are stuck on.
r-51 is so cool!
Communication science is quite interesting!
R51 is so funny
Today on Science Live I learned that if you were to try to send a message from far away you could use Morse code to talk to another person on the line using the dot and the dash which can be used to say things back in the olden days. 😁👍
very interesting! r51 is pretty funny
Email is just another way of communicating through internet.
WOW!
Pretty cool episode!
What is Morse code mostly used for now? I’ve seen it used with flash lights in a few movies but can it be used by the government as a spy code in real life too?
Thank you so much
Thank you for the lesson today. It was great!
If you had one thing to tell your younger self Dr. Roger Billings & Dr. Pajet what would it be?
I loved learning Morse code with my friend a couple years ago. It’s a really useful (and cool) skill to have, I recommend learning it. 🙂
Thank you Mr. Rodger Billing and Pajet Monet for todays Science Live!
This show is so fun
Happy early Thanksgiving!
