Integrated Circuit Introduction

February 11, 2026  •  EPISODE 297

Why were integrated circuits so important in making computers smaller, faster, and more powerful? In this episode of Science LIVE, Roger Billings introduces the integrated circuit. Discover how integrated circuits helped shrink computers while making them faster and more powerful—paving the way for today’s technology. The episode also highlights the excitement surrounding the great comet of 2026 and the engineering behind high-speed bullet trains.

I learned that, according to astronomical discoveries, two comets are about to appear in April 2026. One of them is the comet named MAPS, which was discovered on January 13, 2026. The MAPS comet is a fragment of the massive Kreutz-family comet that exploded centuries ago. This comet is predicted to appear on April 4, 2026, with the best observance in the southern hemisphere.

The other comet is named PanSTARRS, which was discovered on September 8, 2025. The PanSTARRS comet has likely originated from the Oort Cloud, a thick bubble of ice and space debris surrounding our solar system. This comet is potentially appearing on April 20, 2026 in the northern hemisphere and a little late in the southern hemisphere.
