Tuned Radio
January 28, 2026 • EPISODE 295
How do radios tune in to specific stations? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings explores the tuned radio—how circuits are adjusted to select particular frequencies so we can hear one station clearly among many. Learn why tuning is essential for radio reception and how the first wireless radio signal crossed the Atlantic Ocean, launching a new era of global communication.

RADIO WAVES ARE COOL!
Always nice to be educated on the origins of things and how things work on these weekly videos.
I loved this episode, what a different world we would live in with out internet, my mom said it was great without it though. LOL
Radios are actually so cool!
what are blue monster galaxeys?
How far away are blue monster galaxies?
I was surprised to learn that Wi-fi was just a made up word, I always assumed it was short for something. Regardless, it was cool to learn more about how it was first created.
I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture today, more specifically how much effort it took to make radio signals travel across the ocean. I was also shocked when I found out engineers tried to place a wire across the ocean.
I love watching science live its so entertaining and i love learning about how everything works its really cool.
It’s very cool how the Wi-Fi changed overtime and how much we use the Wi-Fi now because we have more technology and have artificial intelligence.
black holes are so cool!!!!!!!!!!
the part of the video with the radio was real cool and just science is amazing.

Those threads are really cool
The Evengeniers are awesome!!😁
I liked watching the science live it was very educational
Loved learning about Wi-fi today, I truly thought the name had some purpose though!
I always thought it was named wi-fi for a reason, but I guess they named it because “wi” not!
the fact that transistors need to be not only need to be in a certain but need to zoom in the see ALL the transistors and how small transistors can be amazes me.
Science live is always so interesting!
Wow, I didn’t know Wi-Fi connected to my iPad and it’s wireless
I am blown away that they can make computer components so small that they can fit into something as small as thread, and that they could be used in the future to make smart clothing. I want to build a radio that can tune into R51!!!!!
Wi-fi is great! I can do acellus classes anywhere!
how do you think they build devices like computers so small that they fit in a thread?
i wonder why they even made the first name “IEEE 80.11” then just change it to “wifi”
Watching from New Orleans!
The radio segment was really intriguing!
The computing thread thing was very interesting!
I loved learning about the radio!
Science Live is awesome!
Smart clothes? Sounds pretty cool to me!

I love learning about black holes I’ve always found them very interesting!
It’s funny how wi-fi name has no true meaning behind it.
I love the jokes !!!!
I wonder will all clothes have these installed or certain brands. These would be good to track missing people.
it was interesting learning about radio waves signals were used for communicating.
I love Dr billings
Hello Accellus! Thank you for hosting this amazing Science Live every week, I really enjoy learning.
I would like to learn about Radio Tuning
I loved this live!!

I love this video! Can’t wait for next weeks!
radios are cool
I love science live
Its so cool how radios work.
In this week’s episode of Science Live, “Ep. 295: Tuned Radio”, Dr. John in the ‘Technology Spotlight’ segment talked about the computer chip threads created by researchers in China. In the ‘Science Breakthroughs’ segment, Dr. Tobias talked about an Australian inventor by the name of John Sullivan who attempted to create something that could help him see a black hole but failed, meanwhile, an American company called ‘IEEE’ attempted to create a WIFI system for portable devices that we know of today. In the final segment of Science Live, Dr. Billings talked about tuned radios.
I like learning about black holes they are very interesting.
I ❤️ science live!!
I’m amazed on how many children joined the school just for Acellus
I have missed a lot of episodes, but am so happy to watch again.
I love science and engineering!!!
I never knew you can just tie and do things with the computers cables. there is so many things you can do with that.
we need to bring radios back.
I think it’s pretty cool that the radio station is able to reach such a far distance and basically having a computer in a thread is awesome.
The computer is so cool!
I read a book last week about how they used morse code a lot in World War 1.
The blue monster galaxies is such a cool name for it I will definetly be researching more about it.
its absolutley crazy how much wifi is used
I find it funny how Wi-Fi was named, and how the name had nothing to do with what it is 😆
Its cool that WI-FI is a made up name.
They finally finished the wiring only for it to break three weeks later, glad we can use radio waves.
Crazy how people invent all we have today.
Computers have come so far. I love Wifi. Not sure how I would survive without it.
This is awsome can’t wait for the next live!
