How to Invent
November 19, 2025 • EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

I love Science Live!
Morse code seems so cool! I want to learn it so bad because my aunt got my a bracelet that says my name in morse code and it intrests me to learn more words.
I like that you should write down what problem you are trying to solve.
I really enjoyed learning more about the Morse Code and about the difference between CB radios and Ham radios.
My favorite part was Dr. Roger Billing’s story about how he used his previous knowledge about how you can send a signal through the ground by using a conductor, and succeeded to quickly solve an issue when the power went out in a building during a meeting while a speaker was giving a presentation.
I love science live❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What will the next episode of Science live be about?
ngl, this is more fun than i originally thought it would be

Happy Thanksgiving Eve from Wisconsin!!
Science live is my favorite!!
science live always has the most interesting facts and details about science!!
Comment I really liked the “How to Invent” episode because it made inventing feel way less scary and more like a step-by-step process I could actually try. When Dr. Billings showed how a simple idea can turn into something real, it made me think more seriously about my own random ideas and writing them down instead of ignoring them. It was inspiring and made me want to start a small project of my own.
I want to be an inventor too!!
This is the very First Science Live I watched and I love it so far, Hope to see more moving forward!!!
Thank you for the scholarship program 🙂
This science live was super interesting! Robots are really cool! 😁

I love science live
I love how much we can learn from Acellus live.
I always enjoy watching science live. It motivates me every time I watch science live.
Science Live always has very interesting facts 😃 especially like looking into living cells through a microscope and being able to see just how things work inside of those extremely small cells is fascinating.
i never really understood what “state of the art ” meant. Dr Billings explained it really well and has me thinking of inventions that already exist but aren’t at that “state”
this was honestly really entertaining and funny, the robots falling made me laugh.
Science is my favorite subject and I think robots are really cool. I always love learning more about robots!
I saw that one of the shirts won the contest. Will the shirt become available for purchase on the Acellus store?
the Scientific Method is often the best way to invent something worthwhile.
Hearing how so many things that we usually take for granted today and seem normal actually took a lot of hard work and time to create is really cool! Like email!
Happy Thanksgiving y’all hope you have a great week
This episode was one of my favorites. Acellus rocks!!
My great grandpa used to do Morse code for the railroad
i always look forward to science live!

Happy thanksgiving everyone!
Science is definitely my favorite! The robots was the best part
i always thought the @ sign was from tech and it was suprising to find out it wasnt!.
Checking in from Indiana
I really loved this episode and liked learning about new things
Sending an email is so easy. If I had to write a message and send it, it would take forever to get an answer. Morse Code is pretty cool, but would probably have also taken a long time. I am lucky to live during a time where there is all of this technology.
I like watching and learning new things from Acellus! Watching the Robot.
If you have an idea to invent something what is the first step?
this episode is actually super interesting I love R 51 it’s just so exciting can’t wait for the next episode.
If you want to invent something but you’re not qualified to make it, you just have the idea, where do you start?
I love the live, I’m ready for next week. Can we talk more about morse code?
Science live is the best i love how they explain everything so good to were i can understand it the best.
The history of the @ symbol is interesting!
Vectored instruction is very beneficial. I’m glad it became a feature on Acellus.
Thank y’all for taking time out of y’all’s day to teach us more and more.
I reallying enjoyed this episode! I personally enjoyed the exsample of how math is a brick wall and if you miss a step it all falls apart.
I thought that is was cool the way the robots fell and posed as they were programmed to protect their battery packs.
I always love to see these streams, they’re always so fascinating!
I wasn’t expecting to learn about morse code and the history of the @ sign. This turned out to be more interesting than I thought it would.
Is the hardest part of inventing always the creative process?
I like how a small idea can change the world like the @ symbol for emails.
My family is grateful for our scholarships!
How long did it take for you Dr. Billings to learn morse code? Also, how would you advise everyone to learn it quickly but also efficiently. Thank you, and happy thanksgiving!
i love how science live encourages me to do the other activities!!
I’m glad acellus has vectored instructing to help me where I need it!
I love watching the science lives they are so fun to watch and are the highlight of my week!
Watching this every week makes me so modivated to study. I like the Invention ladder method do it one step at a time.
I love learning about so many things through Science Live!
R51 makes me laugh!
I definitely agree that the scholarship should be earned in order to keep it. It’s not that difficult to watch a science live once a week. The scholarship is the reason my family can afford Acellus. And Acellus has huge value to me. I have severe depression and Acellus has helped me keep my grades up through it, especially with the vectored instruction. The fact that I can do it on my own time really helps when I’m having a hard day and feel like I can’t do anything. I would have been left behind in a traditional school environment. This program has been huge for me, and deserves to be used by people that will utilize it as a weapon for learning and getting ahead of the curve, as well as by people that have a different learning style from traditional classroom environments.
Science live is like all of the fun parts of learning, put together into one big category!
Acellus is awesome it makes me smart.
Teaching robots how to fall is cool because it pushes the boundaries of robotics beyond simple functionality and into the realm of resilience and adaptability. Instead of freezing or breaking down when something goes wrong, fall-tolerant robots can sense instability, react in real time, and protect themselves-much like humans learning to fall safely. This not only reduces damage and extends a robots lifespan but also makes them more dependable in unpredictable environments, from crowded homes to disaster zones. Ultimately, teaching robots how to fall is about giving them the kind of graceful, intelligent physical behavior that brings machines a step closer to moving naturally in our world.
I didn’t know the history behind the @ symbol, very neat!
I love Pajet’s class! She teaches me so much.
I really like being able to take advantage of vectored instruction. It always helps me to better grasp a concept!
This episode was cool! I never thought I’d know so much about “@“ but here I am 🤩
Tobias’ talk about the history of email’s and computer messages was very well-thought -out.
I love Dr Joseph’s jokes at the beginning of these videos! they’re so cheesy but always seem to get me😂
Science and math go hand in hand. I really like how much we are learning.
I find it fascinating about how much technology and especially comunications have changed over a very short time span. It is mind boggling that not that long ago we were using simple Morse code and that was a huge improvement.
Thank you for the Science Live video it help me a lot
We love Science Live. Awesome video!!
I love you guys so much, and I love watching science live because you all make it interesting to watch and you all are so funny
i love science live!!
I think that the concept of deciding what the need is for an invention is the best course. I am currently learning about finding a passion in a field and then tailoring my college path and career goals around that. Brainstorming is the best way to identify what I like and don’t like.
I love Science! Teaching a robot how to fall was cool.
The robots doing specific poses while falling to protect fragile components is really interesting!
Area 51 is so funny!
Science history is always so fascinating!
R51 is definitely Pajet’s favorite student.
I loved the video. It was great learning about the ins and outs of invention. I would especially like to know more about patents.
what’s everyone’s favorite subject so far?
morse code is so so interesting
I love to invent!
What is your favorite part of Thanksgiving? It would be fun to write a Thanksgiving menu in morese code.
Science Live is a very neat program, there is a lot that someone can learn from it.
I love science lives!!
I enjoyed learning about the @ symbol and the history behind it all. I didn’t know they the symbol had so many connections.
Science is very interesting!!
I love learning how to invent
Love it!!!❤️
Inventing is so cool!!
It’s crazy to think the @ sign is commonly used for emails today but where originally used for something completely different.
I love learning how things came about such as emails and cell phones.
Hello from Louisiana, how are yall?
Morse code is so cool! I have a bracelet that says ‘Best Friend’ in Morse code!
Love disney robots. They are so cool to watch.
Science Live is somethings I never knew about.. I told my mom about this and now every Wednesday she is ready to learn more with me.
Happy thanksgiving I love to invent a lot. Science live really gets you to think a lot it is super fun to watch! I like the part about the robot falling

Does earth make its own vibrations.
I didn’t know invention was about organizing stuff
I loved the robots
Comment I love Morse code. My dad taught me.
I love r 51 and science.
I didn’t know Disney made robots
Science live is soooo cool😎
I love that science live is teaching so many important life skills, I love making things, but I’m not the best at it, so this helped a ton!!
It’s so cute how the robots are learning to fall with style, it’s so fun to think about what other things they could do in the future!
I also think a Morse code activity could be a fun addition to the activities section.
The science live is my favorite part of my week
I got an email as Mr. Tobias was talking about emails!
