How to Invent
November 19, 2025 • EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

Acellus, as a kid who was in public school for 7 years, i just wanted to say thank you. I’m a 11 year old girl with ADHD and Anxiety, I couldn’t focus and needed 1 on 1 time with the teacher. And like most kids with ADHD (some without too) – I never knew what we were doing, I have a brother with Special Needs, and he is now in our Public Middle School without me. I just wanted to say thank you for extra hep, breaks, and adjustable timing. I started Acellus around middle of July and i have a 3.45 GPA right now, i have an A+ in math, and I have focused more and felt happier. Thank you for this lovely education program.
Love,
Cali D.
I agree, this homeschool program has been overall the best! It’s helped me focus more on things, and has taught me a lot more than the K-12 program. It’s nice knowing that I have no more over due lessons for going really fast through problems, getting them all right, and then having too do them over again for getting them all right in short time.
I also Agree that Acellus is the Best Schooling Program EVER!!!
This was a great episode!
I am really into Morse code.
This episode of science live was great!
I think learning Morse code would be very interesting and engaging.
I love science live
This episode really sparked my creativity about inventing !! maybe i could give it a try one day 🙂 i love learning about this processes and how ideas can come to life.
Hello Dr. Billings,
If and when the robot falls does it stay down from falling or can it or does it stand back up from falling?
Thank you so much.
i love learning about robots
Morse code is so interesting, I would enjoy if it was put under Activities to try I think that would be fun! Also, I try to watch every episode there is of Science Live and I think that its not fair to ones who do watch it for some that don’t watch it to still get the scholarship, because you are supposed to keep your promise if possible and if you signed up for the scholarship then you should watch the episodes of Science Live, Plus it can be fun and very informative, so the ones that are not watching it are really missing out.
yay! Morse code!
This video was very good.
Morse code sounds fun!
These are so helpful! Thank you Acellus!
What type of morse code device are you using?
I only know how to do sos in Morse code lol, but to learn it in its entirety would be great!
Morse code is a very interesting topic to learn about.
Who invented Morse Code?
I love learning about invention. Thank you for sharing this information .
I love science live and I always look forward to these videos.
