How to Invent
November 19, 2025 • EPISODE 287
How do great inventions begin? In this episode of Science LIVE, Dr. Roger Billings breaks down the process of inventing—showing how curiosity, creativity, and simple problem-solving can grow into real innovations. Using Morse code as an example, he explains how messages are sent and demonstrates it with a telegraph key. A fun, practical look at how anyone can start turning ideas into inventions.

Could never miss a Science live!
How could the dual light microscope (that can observe at microscopic and nanoscopic levels) be used in astronomy? Could it help understand and observe galaxies, planets, and stars better?
Probably not. Sort of how a macro lens can take very good photos of small things like ants, while a regular lens can’t take a clear image of such a small thing. And the same thing goes for the macro lens as it won’t be as good as the regular lens in taking larger scale photos, it will only really be only to focus on one subject and make everything else blurry. Similarly, a telescope is made and intended to magnify very far subjects, while a microscope is made to magnify close tiny stuff. But hey, I’m not an expert so I can’t say for sure, there are likely reputable articles online that talk about that.
Thank you! I so enjoy Dr. Billings…
Watching from Texas! I love watching Acellus live cause I learn so much from them, when I saw the Morse code but, it reminded me that I actually have a book on how to send secret messages through Morse code and other neat methods! Along with the history behind those methods. Love ya Acellus!
